Burnley boss Owen Coyle was frustrated the Clarets were unable to make more of their chances at Plymouth to avoid a fifth away loss of the season.

"I know the reason why we've lost it, we've made big, big individual mistakes at each of the goals," he said.

"But if we go and analyse it, as I like to do, I thought we dominated the game.

"I thought we started terrific, and all of a sudden we're 1-0 down at Plymouth's first attempt at goal.

"We bounced back and scored a very good goal.

"Their second goal, we probably had three or four opportunities to clear the ball.

"I thought it was a handball by Jermaine Easter as well, but it's been allowed to carry on and we've lost a very poor second goal.

"But in the second half, there were periods where it was like scenes from the Alamo. I thought some of the football was terrific.

"Ultimately, the boy (Peter) Halmosi's goal for the third was a terrific finish, but equally we had opportunities to clear the box with two or three opportunities within that."

He added: "It's hard to take. Probably everything that could have conspired against us did in regards of personnel we had missing.

"Obviously Andrew we knew was injured but Ade and Stan Varga had felt unwell (on Friday) and weren't able to train.

"So much so that Ade wasn't able to make the 16.

"Stan tried to start the game but was feeling the effects straight away.

"Having said, from the boys that played their part there were an awful lot of positives.

"I thought we passed and moved and controlled the majority of the game, but again we've been punished.

"Plymouth aren't where they are by accident. They took full advantage when we made mistakes and we paid a heavy price.

"Late changes don't help but we're not here to make excuses because the boys that did play offered enough to take something from the match.

"Every manager at whatever club you're at, you want your full personnel and all your top players available, but the nature of the game is that's not always going to be the case, so whoever you've got have to come in and play accordingly.

"It feels a bit sore when you lose 3-1, but that's football."
