THERE was mixed success for Sandygate Boxing Club fighters in the ABA Area Under 20s Novice Championships at the weekend.
While Ben Brindle won the light middleweight title, John Campbell was robbed' of glory in the welterweight final - and had the backing of world champion Michael Jennings from Chorley.
The 19-year-old won the opening three rounds of the contest against his opponent from the Jimmy Egan Gym in Manchester and went in to the final round with a five point advantage.

But his opponent was awarded nine points in the final round to win 14-11.
"I thought I had done enough to win the competition but some how the judges awarded him nine points in the last round," said the Accrington-born fighter. "The England officials who were there thought I had done enough and so did Michael Jennings.
"If the world champion thinks you did enough to win then that is telling you something."
Campbel will now turn his attention to supporting his sparring partner Brindle who fights against the Liverpool area champion for the regional title on Sunday.
But before that he has a fight in Hull on Thursday.
"I'm still buzzing from the championships so I think I will do well," said the former Moorland High School pupil. "The defeat hasn't deterred me one bit and while I was obviously disappointed at losing it has spurred me on to do well in next year's ABA championships."
Campbell is coached by John Brindle and has been a member of Sandygate for he past four years.
