STIRK House boxer Kenny Anderson is due to return to the ring against Wayne Reed on April 14 following the cancellation of his long-awaited rematch with George Groves.
Anderson, who trains in Gisburn with Kevin Maree, had been due to challenge Groves for the British title at Wembley Arena a fortnight ago.
But Groves, who stopped Anderson in dramatic fashion in November 2010, pulled out with a back injury just four days before the fight and it remains uncertain if the bout will now take place.
Groves could instead vacate the Lonsdale belt and challenge Robert Stieglitz for the world title.
Anderson will now take on Reed, from Sheffield, in an eight-rounder in his home city of Edinburgh in two weeks’ time and remains hopeful of fighting for the vacant British title in the near future.
A date of May 26, on the undercard of Carl Froch’s fight with Lucien Bute in Nottingham, had previously been mooted and Paul Smith has been mentioned as a possible opponent.
Liverpudlian Smith has fought both Groves and James DeGale recently, losing both contests.
