MEXICAN boxing legend Marco Antonio Barrera is set to visit East Lancashire next month in the latest coup for Gisburn trainer Kevin Maree.

Maree has brought Roy Jones and Roberto Duran to Stirk House in recent times as part of his promotions work and ‘An Evening with Marco Antonio Barrera’ is now due to take place at the venue on Tuesday, March 6.

The Gisburn event will include a photo opportunity with Barrera, a three-course meal and evening entertainment.

Barrera is regarded as one of Mexico’s all-time greats and is perhaps best remembered in England for bringing Naseem Hamed’s unbeaten record to a halt in 2001.

Now 38, the ‘Baby-Faced Assassin’ also fought Amir Khan in 2009, losing a technical decision at the MEN Arena after sustaining an early cut, and twice defeated fellow Mexican icon Erik Morales.

As well as organising Barrera’s trip to the area, Maree is also currently training Kenny Anderson at Stirk House ahead of the super middleweight’s British title fight against George Groves at the Wembley Arena in London on Friday, March 16.

Tickets for Barrera’s visit are available for £60 each, or £600 for a table of 10, at www.mareepromotions.co.uk.
