Kenny up for Groves rematch

KENNY Anderson will get another shot at George Groves’ British and Commonwealth titles – and this time he will be ready for his revenge mission.

The East Lancs trained Scottish fighter lost to Groves last year – the only blemish on his 16-fight career – after taking the fight at only two weeks notice.

But coach Kevin Maree, who is based in Gisburn, believes the 29-year-old will be fully prepared for a shot at the super middleweight titles when a date and venue is announced early in the new year.

He said: “We have been wanting this rematch for some time and finally we have got it.

“Kenny has what it takes to beat Groves and we will be fully prepared this time around.”

Anderson, who won the light heavyweight gold medal in the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, was due to fight at the Colne Muni on Friday night but pulled out due to illness.

Maree added: “Kenny had not been feeling too good in the build-up to the fight and then we got the news that the Groves fight was on so we decided it was too much of a risk to put him, especially as he was not feeling well.”
