Titles not money is Shayne’s main Prize
SHAYNE Singleton will turn down the chance to compete in the money-spinning Prizefighter series to concentrate on winning titles.
The classy Colne boxer had been in line for a place in the Sky Sports tournament but will instead turn his attentions to building on his impressive record.
“There has been talk about Prizefighter and it was something we considered,” he said.
“But after discussing it with my coach and my promoter, we decided we wanted to concentrate on trying to win titles rather than earning an extra bit of money.”
The 22-year-old took his perfect record to 11 straight wins with a points victory over Jonny Greaves in his light welterweight contest at a sell-out Colne Muni on Friday night.
On a night where all of the local boxers tasted victory, it was the performance of Singleton – nicknamed The Pain – that stood out.
He outclassed Greaves to win all four round and did so with two cracked ribs.
“I shouldn’t have been fighting really because of the injury,” added Singleton who has been boxing since he was 10-years-old. “I’ve only been training for the last two weeks so with that in mind, I was very happy with my performance.”
Singleton, who fights out of the Elite Gym in Bolton, is hoping 2012 will be a big year for him – starting with a shot at an area title.
“Next year is going to be a big one for me,” added the former Sandygate ABC fighter. “I’m hoping to get a shot at an area title in the first couple of months and perhaps go for a Masters title as well.”
Luke Blackledge, the light middleweight from Kokoro Boxing in Accrington, produced his best performance to date to beat the durable Dean Walker on points.
The Clitheroe fighter now boasts a record of seven straight wins.
Jeff Thomas of Maree Boxing beat Monsoor Wali from Afghanistan on points in his six round contest while there was also an impressive win for Burnley fighter Lee Bennett against Andrew Patterson.
