CHORLEY welterweight Michael Jennings is plotting a 2012 British title assault after looking to put the ‘worst year of my life’ behind him.

Jennings suffered his third professional defeat when Kell Brook beat him to the British title and WBO intercontinental belt last September and has yet to fight since.

The 33-year-old has struggled with injury over the past 12 months and in July had an assault charge against him dropped, as he now targets a long-awaited comeback.

Jennings has yet to resume training since picking up a shoulder injury four months ago but is expecting to be given the green light by medical experts in the next couple of weeks.

He said: “It has been a terrible year. The worst I have had. But I can see an end to it and I am looking forward to getting back into action next year.

“I have had a really bad tear in my shoulder but hopefully the next bit of treatment I have on it will be the last and I can get going again.

“I expect I will have a six to eight rounder early next year and then I hope to fight for the British title again. I can’t wait to get going because it has been a very frustrating period.”

In March, Jennings was forced to pull out of a British title eliminator after he ruptured ligaments in a knuckle on his right hand.

Jennings has a huge fan base in Chorley and across Lancashire and has recently set up ‘Exit Jenning Boxing’ gym in his home town.
