CHORLEY’S Michael Jennings says he is now ready for a title fight after returning from his loss to Miguel Cotto with a victory over Willie Thompson in a six-round bout last month.
Jennings fought Cotto for the WBO world welterweight title at Madison Square Garden in February but was stopped inside five rounds.
The 31-year-old then returned to action against little-known Northern Irish fighter Thompson in Belfast and secured a fourth-round technical knock-out.
Jennings has previously expressed his desire to take on Pole Rafal Jackiewicz for the European title, or alternatively Kell Brook for the British belt, and says he is keen to fight for a title.
“I’ve never been one for picking opponents,” he said.
“But if Kell Brook’s the fight they want, I’m up for that because I want a title fight. I don’t want to be fighting six or eight rounders for the rest of my career.
“I don’t know whether Rafal Jackiewicz has vacated but I beat him in Widnes a few years ago, so potentially there could be a fight there.”
