ACCRINGTON’S Luke Blackledge has been handed the chance to fight Rocky Fielding for the Commonwealth super middleweight title on Saturday.

The bout will take place on the undercard of Carl Froch’s world title fight with George Groves at the Phones4u Arena in Manchester, and comes at short notice.

In fact Blackledge has become Fielding’s third scheduled opponent in the space of 24 hours.

The Liverpudlian was due to face Guyana’s Lennox Allen, only for his opponent to pull out of the fight.

Allen was replaced by Charles Adamu before visa issues meant the Ghanaian would be unable to fight.

That led to Blackledge getting the call. He had previously been keen to fight Fielding for the English title but was overlooked and was instead handed the chance to take on Paul Smith for the British title.

That fight was set for the Liverpool Echo Arena on December 7 but was later thrown into doubt after Smith announced he was splitting with his promoter Frank Warren.

With continuing uncertainty, Blackledge has taken the offer of the fight against Fielding.
