    Full-time: Blackburn Rovers 1 Tottenham Hotspur 1
Andre Ooijer congratulates Morten Gamst Pedersen
Andre Ooijer congratulates Morten Gamst Pedersen

ROVERS' European ambitions took a knock as they picked up just a point against Spurs.

Dimitar Berbatov gave the visitors a seventh-minute lead when he bundled home Jermaine Jenas' cross.

And Rovers had Brad Friedel to thank as he denied the Bulgarian hitman a second minutes later.

But a piece of David Bentley magic made Rovers' equaliser.

In one movement, he controlled a cross-field ball and beat Pascal Chimbonda before finding Morten Gamst Pedersen and he found the corner.

Chances were at a premium in the second half.

Berbatov, and then Steed Malbranque, were foiled by Friedel with Rovers best opportunties coming from Bentley who twice went close.

But Mark Hughes won't be happy with a point as the race for the European places heats up.

Sadly this team has been found wanting, when the 'chips were down'.

Sparky's idea of a weeks 'holiday', just before the final push, didn't have the desired effect. Instead, the team were, generally speaking, more lackadaisical than before the 'holiday'.
Sparky MUST instill some steel into next years team.
The present crowd give away far too many points - needlessly.

Great game today after all. Tottenham were toying with us for the first 25 min (posession 22% - 78%) but we really got into the game after that and the game could have gone any way.

Good secure debut by Vogel - nervous start, but he will get stronger when he gets some caps under his belt.

Roberts showing that will and fight can compensate for "lack of talent" - he fought out there. Roque strong as ever.

Samba - the Wall is back! - under the guidance of The Admiral. Although they apparently first entered the field in second half.

Here comes the negatives: Reid did not impress me today - perhaps because he was playing alongside a debutant? I would love if he was better to see the deep pass to roberts or roque - alot of times i think a quick deep pass could have buried the game - just like Berbatov and Jenas was doing to us!. This being said - i did not see if it was reid or Vogel who made the long pass to Bentley when we scored. That pass was awesom.

Good game - just wish we could have won it.

    Cheers

The fight for Euro is still on. I have faith that we can get that spot. Good play by Rovers today... just a shame that Spurs shared the point.
The game next week is going to be even more harder, but you never know what the outcome will be.
    COME ON ROVERS!!

Havn't seen the game yet, i'm sure he's not that bad. Give him some time and you might come to like him.
Morten played awesome today, I don't why but I always think he comes to the rescue, when we're a goal down. Even when we have to draw or win a game.

ITS not that we are crap. we are way overperforming for the money we spend. But it cant go on forever. We are going to struggle nxt year. lets face it, we may be close to europe but the way we are playing we hav no chance

fair comments but u cant blame the ref for another poor home result. yet again , rubbish. third time i have taken a neutral to the game to try to get them to support rovers. yet again we were rubbish and they said never again. last two times , boro and pmouth and they were bored stiff.

Bored stiff? Dont think they are fan material then :-) The game was quite entertaining and full of pace. This is the first time i have "enjoyed" a draw (except from the first 25 min. where we got slaughted)

But the Boro and Pmouth games were boring though :-)

    Cheers!

    True Dave,
    Reid was like a caveman.
Its worrying to see that Spurs dominated us early doors.
Teams will strengthen in summer, i just hope we do or its gonna be grim.
Hughes should give Derbs a run late on.

Give him time - it's tough coming into prem from abroad especially when you have not played for 10 months. Trust in MH who is trying to aclimatise him ready for next season. Another bargain if it comes off and no "Grabbi" style £15m write off if it doesn't.
Fantastic move for the Goal. Santa needs a lesson from Simon Garner on when to go down in injury time!

Did Sparky's ref outburst cost us that blatant penalty on Bentley?
Posted by: Howard Gayle on 2:03pm Sun 6 Apr 08
For me, I don't think Reid has ever impressed a great deal since he's been at Rovers.
He's definately a fit lad and likes a tackle. I really see him as a holding midfielder or even better, a right full back. He never looks like scoring and I don't think he's blessed with vision.

Sparky will be looking for at least 2 central midfielders this summer.

Our best player at reading (zurab) was left out today for Nelson and Samba, who have both been making mistakes since before christmas.

can someone explain the logic of that to me? that part of selection left me pretty bewildered.

I thought he had a steady game & grew in confidence as the game went on, it was his pass from which the move started for the Rover goal. He very rarely gave the ball away, unlike Reid & always had his head up looking for the forward pass, again unlike Reid. When he needed to get rid of the ball he did.
I think Reid had a bad game today, maybe because he wasn't used to playing alongside Vogel.
The whole team had a bad start to the game, I do think we need an attacking midfield player.
I also feel sorry for Zurab, not even being on the bench, as I think we look far better in defence when Oijer & Zurab are playing?

a couple of points spurs arnt a bad side, why they think berbatov is woth £40M tho is beyond me. lets not forget spurs have spent a small fortune this last season.
i didnt think the game was that bad, it was cold, swirling wind, and a slippery pitch which doesnt help but after a bad 20 25 mins we got our act together and were as good as spurs for the rest of the game.
as for the central defensive pairing the admiral was back to something like his best and samba grew in confidence as a result.
it was also obvious that andre was getting done for pace and hughsie rectified that at half time.
Vogel got the ball and tried to release people early and usually with a forward pass although not a great debut it was satisfactory.
not sure what roversgirl meant about ped but after the goal you would have thought he would be brimming with confidence but he was guilty of some sloppy passing especially in the second half.
reidy looks like a player who has been out a long time, they come back and play on adrenalin for a while but then the pace of the game catches up with them, maybe thats whats happened to him.
Bents after a slow start showed the bit of magic that stands him out above the others for the wide right midfield position absolute class first touch in the lead up for our goal, (it was worth the admission money alone) he had a good second half too.
as for the ref i kno you cant blame refs but again how is it our foul count is in the region of 15 or 16 and theres is only 5, how was that a foul when dawson misses the flight of the ball and goes down as JR is running past him.
as for the penalty shout, definate penalty, but you win some and you lose some we have had our fair share of dodgy decisions, so im not complaining to much on that.
im still optimistic we have the basis of a decent side, others below us will have to spend a fortune just to get near our level and hopefully the quality that hughsie is loooking for in the summer will keep us ahead of them.

    KEEP THE FAITH

Is it a competition to see how many football cliches a halfwit cn produce in one sitting? If it is then you will always win. I'm popping a tenner in the post for you to go out and buy yourself an original thought.

It never ceases to amaze me how fickle and uneducated some Football fans are. Johan Vogel is a Swiss international who has been coveted by many of the top European teams.

The guy has not played regularly for a while, anyone with even a modicum of Football knowledge would have been impressed with his ball retention and composure on the ball, he tired towards the end, understandably. Who are these cluless bufoons who come on here.
Posted by: robbie, Manchester on 8:05am Mon 7 Apr 08
    HUH!!!! typical rovers fans...

how can anyone have a go at vogel!!!!!

The guy has not played in close to a year, it will take him a good few games to get his form going, i think he played well, not great, but well.

Back off the guy and give him a chance atleast..

    i'l enjoy spending it too.

i found your views on satursday game enlightening too, extremely well thought out comments, a nice understanding of the game, and the way you disected the teams performance was worthy of a pulitzer prize

Thought Vogel did rather well, considering his time out of the game.i have to agree with those comments on Reid,i too think he is not good enough,in fact i never rated him at all.He doesnt contribute much going forward.I would rather have Vogel alongside Tugay or Dunny, than Reid.It just shows, that the one element missing is still that creative midfielder.Everybody can see it,but only Hughes seems to miss it.
