Wigan Athletic Reserves 0 Blackburn Rovers Reserves 2
    COMEBACK: Rovers skipper Ryan Nelsen
    COMEBACK: Rovers skipper Ryan Nelsen

BLACKBURN Rovers captain Ryan Nelsen made his first appearance in two months as the reserves beat Wigan Athletic last night.

The New Zealand international had not kicked a ball since mid-January after Rovers' medical staff ordered him to rest in a bid to cure a persistent hamstring injury .

However, the 30-year-old took his first steps on the road towards a first-team comeback when he came through an hour unscathed at Robin Park.

Keith Treacy and Martin Olsson also made successful returns after similar injury lay-offs on what proved to be a productive night for reserve team boss Glyn Hodges.

Wigan fielded several first-team players in their starting line-up, yet they found themselves 2-0 down by half-time as Rovers struck an early psychological blow ahead of Saturday's Premier League clash between these two sides at Ewood Park.

The two goals both came from set-pieces and were scored by members of Rovers' Academy.

Alex Marrow, who was snapped up by the club from Non-League Ashton Athletic, scored his first goal for the reserves when he scored with a header from a corner.

And Marcus Marshall grabbed the other goal in virtually identical circumstances to leave the Robins stunned.

SANTA CRUZ to MAN CITY Looks like Sven will finally get his man. It's a well known fact he was after Santa Cruz last summer, but probably didn't have the available funds at the time and therefore Blackburn came in picking up on Sven's knowledge. Rumours have it Santa would relish joining a big club like City and this will be a dream come true for him. No disrespect to Blackburn, but Man City are a much bigger attraction (even without recent success) as were Newcastle for Mark Hughes a couple of months back.

Firstly sky blue, City are only bigger than Rovers fan base wise, statistically your an awful yoyo club who doesnt even own their own football stadium, even with a multi billionaire at the helm. City provide no better attraction than Rovers as it is in the record books that our record is much better than yours. Sven will be aiming much higher I imagine with a few more millions to spend however I find it hard to accept that even a 20million injection of funds would make City a team that could rival Rovers on the pitch. Its a club that is only attractive to those foreigners who want to make a fast buck and your current squad echos those thoughts. So its nice to see in Blackburn because it really does prove that Mankchester is not a nice place to live !!

Hmmmm I'm baffled. So Rovers are better than West Ham because the league table says so, and they are also better than City even though the table doesn't say so.(I have just read posts on another page) Hang on are you better than Man U, Chelsea, Arsenal, Real Madrid and Barca as well, of course you are.
