Birmingham pledge to throw everything at Blackburn Rovers

SUNDAY'S showdown between Blackburn Rovers and Birmingham City at St Andrew's will be screened live on Sky TV.

The game has suddenly assumed huge significance, with both sides desperate to secure a win that could be crucial to their respective fights at opposite ends of the Premier League table.

Birmingham need at least a point to stand any chance of avoiding an instant return to the Championship, whilst a win for Rovers could see them pip Aston Villa in the race for sixth position and a place in the Intertoto Cup.

Birmingham keeper Maik Taylor said: "It's going down to the wire now and we're still in with a fighting chance.

"We have to be prepared to throw everything into the 90 minutes, hope we can get the three points, and then pray for the other results.

"One consolation is that we have a home game to finish on.

"If we continue the home form, then that will give us a chance.

"It's a must-win game, it's not going to be easy, Blackburn are a very difficult team to play against.

"But we have to be up for it and it's boiling down to 90 minutes of football."

"I can't understand why anybody would want to leave Birmingham for a small club like Blackburn" said a certain Mr Gold speaking about Robbie Savage's imminent transfer in January 2005.

How ironic it would be Mr Gold...

There's a real battle brewing, with Blackburn's visit to Birmingham this coming Sunday.

Rovers have the men with character to win this crucial game - and we all wish them well.

The team has done well this past season but, it must be said, sloppy play, lack of concentration and occasionally a certain loss of interest, has resulted in us 'gifting' our opponents with points.

These points, I make it nine (9) in total, would look very good today - IF they were added to our recorded total!

We MUST play hard for the entire 90 minutes - of every game - next season!

Good luck on Sunday, lads - you DO deserve to play in Europe next season!

Spurs target England star Bentley
Monday, March 31, 2008
"Tottenham have identified David Bentley as the player to lead an entire new midfield when they seek to build on their Carling Cup success next season.
Blackburn are fighting to keep the England international at Ewood Park and insist he is not for sale.
But Spurs will be awash with transfer funds in the summer and will not baulk at paying over the odds to get their man.
Bentley is believed to fancy a return to London but joining former club Arsenal is not an option, there is no room for him in Chelsea's impressive engine-room and West Ham cannot offer the carrot of European football."

What do we reckon lads?

I cant wait to be there to watch us relegate them, how enjoyable will Birmingham be on Sunday night after we send down the Brummies and pip the other half of the city (Burnley in disguise) to the Intertoto spot !!

Come on Rovers !!!

Premiership status doesnt mean you are a big club. We have struggled near the bottom of the league all season and still managed 26000 averages which is 2000 higher than yourselves. If we were in your position and in the new 60,000 capacity City of Birmingham stadium we would average 40-50,000. Why was the house that Jack built so small, because he knew that his little club had reached its potential!.

Your in the 2nd largest city in the country, of course you will get better gates than us. We are a small town club and thats what makes our achievements all the better, see you next season, oh sorry no we wont !!

I remember the same comment everytime Birmingham are scrapping for safety and we are fighting for Europe. I would love it if we sent them down

Sigh...What's the population of Birmingham compared to Blackburn you comedy-accented mouthbreather?

How much of Mr Gold's bongomag cash have you spent to achieve nothing?

BCFC: = The Team That W@nks Bought.

Steve Bruce is having a good laugh at you lot now!

Blackburn is a small town whose team are 7th in the Prem with a chance of Europe, Birmingham is a big City whose team are going down - yet you still spent more than us on transfers this season !!
So my point is your so called big club cant handle the big league !!

BCFC= Birmingham Crappy Football Club - 2nd rate to Villa, always have been, always will be!

Will they fill a 50,000 capacity stadium when they are in a lower division?

Me thinks not.

Randy knew which club to invest in.

Dunny jumped ship at the right time. And Savage may yet be able to play his old club again next season after all.

So long, farewell...

Yes Birmingham are a big team, they always challage for cups, and the top 6. they attact the best players, and are in europe all the time..

and Rovers are such a small team. they dont make semi finals of cups (4 in last 2 seasons<i think>) they dont push for top 6 spot (2 out of last 3 seasons) they never get in europe (3 times in 3 years)

you may get bigger gates than us.. but your a city, we are a town.! what we have achived over the last 3 or 4 seasons makes us a much bigger and better club than you.

enjoy going to burnley, blackpool, preston, next season. i hope all 3 paste you. your cocky stuck up tools.

Wow, a whole 2000 more than us. Blimey that's some achievement for the second biggest city in the kingdom.

That'll be some comfort to you next season when your touring the grounds of all the other massive clubs in Chumpionship, filling your potential. How I envy you brummers, that extra 2000 has really made a difference to your season.

You'll struggle to beat the dingles though, because they've regularly attracted crowds twice the size of ours ever since they missed the playoffs by a one-goal goal difference under the guidance of that giant of football management Stan Ternent.

thats 1/6 of ours, but we have 3 teams. You live in the North so you have little money, so you all watch football. You are a captive audience of a small club. That gives you an unfair advantage. So you are still a small club and we are a big club, regardless of what division we are in.

'Your town's population is 250,000'; I sincerely doubt that. It's around 140,000 with about 40,000 Asians (probably more than that) who aren't really into Rovers. So we have good crowds really.

Folks, I must go now, got a sophisticated night out at a 3 star restaurant, (probably pay for 30 portions of northern fish and chips, blooming expensive!),but I have loved the patter.

I know that we don't always have our luck with the bottom clubs, but this season we've survived and we're gonna give it our up most best with Birmingham . I know that the lads will fight for that Europe spot and won't give up until they've got the three points. So Birmingham beware coz we aint gonna leave empty handed.
THE FIGHT FOR EUROPE IS STILL ON!!
COME ON ROVERS!!

It's also a long way from Birmingham to a restaurant with 3 Michelin stars as there are only 3 in the UK (2 in Bray, Berkshire and one in London) but you could always pop in when you visit QPR or Charlton next season in the Championship.

Bluenosel, brum on please nobody wants a any clubs relegated, but as your comments about Birmingham being a big club, you are wrong, what exatly has Birmingham won since 1992 when premier league began? The answer is nothing. Birmingham is second biggest city in England with a population of around 1 million, your biggest club is Aston Villa who has won many trophies, lesgues,Eur

opean Cup,FA Cups,League Cups, this is the only club which is bigger than Blackburn Rovers. As for Blackburn which is a small town population 140,000,histrocally with a club with a history founded in 1875,founding member of FA and Premeir league.Blackburn Rovers is an established club in the Premeir League since 1992,won the league in 1995 with Shearer and Sutton,Dalglish and Jack Walkers who bankrolled the club with big money transfers and building of a new stadia in Blackburn. In this league Blackburn are bigger club than Birmingham.

Hi all,

I am a Rovers fan, living in birmingham. I am asian and will be going to St. andrews this weekend. Blackburn is a small town but with an established football club, fantastically run by the current hierarchy!
I sincerely hope rovers cap the season off with a comfortable win at birmingham and get into Europe!
BCFC is NOT a bigger club than BRFC. Rovers stadium, squad, facilities are way better than birmghams. Who is birminghams star player? Do they have one? half decent player? exactly none! I cant wait for them going down :)

Yea you probably do but you have to buy three pints every round, one for each head. Now go and play with your mum.

BRFC fans won't care if we don't get into Europe. We know we have to rely on other results. It will only be a bonus if we do. We have had another great season. I just hope we don't lose too many big name players before next season. Hughesy is a top quality manager.

As for the Brummies....... it's all gonna end in tears come saturday. Unfortunately, when you are a BIG CLUB (as the Birmingham fan insists) and keep buying rejects and players that can't cut it at other big clubs (ie Damien Johnsen, Martin Taylor)you are only doomed for one place... RELEGATION!!! hehehehehehe

It's even better than that, Danny. It looks to me like a West Ham draw with Villa will be enough, as long as our boys win. Go Rovers!

spot on Joe but i think hughes will go with a 4-5-1 to start with. Roque on the right. If its looking deadlocked like Portsmouth away i can see Hughes reverting to your 4-4-2.

I know we have the quality to beat them but i just hope that we finish the job and the hammers get something out of Villa.

With only 1400 away seats available many of us are struggling to get down to the midlands but at least its on sky!

C'mon Rovers lets finish the season on a high!

**** right my friend!

we have an absolutely brilliant chance to get sixth here....lets get another 0-4 result at st andrews, like when tugay scored that screamer!

villa will lose at west ham i feel, as west ham have a point to prove after their inept performance at old trafford, villa seem to have run out of steam.

unfortunately i wont be at the game, but i'll be kicking every ball with you lads!

0-2 rovers......oh how wonderful it would be to relegate birmingham as well, after all those 'small club' and 'no ambition' jobes that gold and co labelled at our club during the savage era.....I WOULD LOVE IT!

Your not far wrong with the line up for Sunday Joe , starting 11 virtually picks itself at the moment. big question is what tactics and what positions are individuals going to play. hughsie has pulled out a few surprises in the last few weeks which has freshened everybody up.
its the bench were we have a few problems arnt benni and dunny still injured? even if dunny isnt i think the axe will be prefered to dunny for this game.

ps not particularly bothered about how big a club birmingham are or could be, or what happens to them, thing that matters this weekend is a win for the rovers. it means more money in the kitty, plus a possible european place.

to all true rovers fans out there

keep the faith

If you knew anything about food you would know that the food at Rovers is done by Northcote Manor - which is a nationally renowned restaurant in, guess where, Blackburn. It is far superior to any Birmingham restaurant - don't take my word for it though just look it up on the net.

yeh, i think it will be shut for about a week,

re. the online shop, they can keep the current one going until the new site is ready thenjust do a swop over, should only take a hour or two for the swop.

what ever money they miss out on will be made up by the extra stuff they will be selling. the club shop now is shocking. so the change will be good in the long term.
