Premier League officials are backing Blackburn Rovers' move to reignite the passion for its crunch Premiership clash against local rivals Bolton on Sunday.

Rovers have dramatically cut ticket prices for the Lancashire derby to tackle head on the issues concerning attendances, pricing and attracting more away fans in the Premiership.

Blackburn officials recognised that with the club progressing to the UEFA Cup group stages, it is expensive for fans to watch all matches, so for the Bolton match, home and away supporters will pay £15 for a seat, while senior citizens and children will be charged only £5.

A spokesman for the Premier League, said: "We back any initiative that gets as many fans as possible along to Premiership matches.

"Blackburn's range of accessible ticketing prices is a great example of the good work many Premier League clubs undertake to make top flight football affordable to all.

"This Lancashire derby has a fantastic history and deserves to be played in front of a packed Ewood Park; we hope both sets of fans turn up and generate the traditional, passionate atmosphere."

Blackburn chairman John Williams said: "We have had a good response from supporters of both teams and we hope there will be a full house at Ewood on Sunday.

"The best way to sample the noise, passion and excitement a match like this generates is not in the pub but inside the stadium."

Local celebrities have also given their support to the move and are urging Rovers fans to make sure they out sing their Bolton rivals.

Former Superbike champ Carl Fogarty said: "It is great news that Rovers are trying to build up the derby atmosphere and the only way to do that is by getting fans back in the ground.

"Rovers are on a great run at the moment and Mark Hughes and the lads deserve all the support they can get, so I hope the ground is jumping for this game."

Top designer Wayne Hemmingway said: "My earliest memory of this fixture was going away to Bolton to watch Rovers and the intense rivalry.

"This game should have a passionate atmosphere and I hope Rovers fans turn out in force."

Comedian Jim Bowen said: "Both sides are doing well but there's only going to be one winner this Sunday and that's Rovers!

"A full house will mean a great atmosphere, something all fans enjoy when watching football."

The match is steeped in history as Blackburn's highest ever home attendance of 62,522 happened in this fixture back in 1929 and Rovers want to reignite the passion this fixture has created in the past.
