FULL-TIME: Birmingham 4, Rovers 1

ROVERS' outside chance of a place in the Intertoto Cup was foiled on the final day of the season.

But Birmingham City's efforts to avoid relegation were in vain as, despite twice taking the lead before Fabrice Muamba sealed the win with the fourth and final goal late on, results elsewhere meant they dropped back down to the Championship after just one season in the top flight.

Birmingham took the lead just after the half-hour, when David Murphy ran onto a quickly taken free kick and, after not being closed down, took the opportunity of a speculative shot at goal.

Brad Friedel looked to have it well covered, but took his eyes off the low strike for a second and the ball spooned up out of his hands and over the line.

Morten Gamst Pedersen got Rovers back on level terms four minutes into the second half with a first-time right foot shot from Roque Santa Cruz's square ball, after Jason Roberts' initial effort had been charged down.

Brett Emerton, Santa Cruz and Roberts all had chances to put Rovers in front, but they capitulated after Birmingham had regained the lead in the 74th minute.

Moments after Cameron Jerome had missed a sitter from close range, the Birmingham substitute slotted home after latching onto Sebastian Larsson's ball from the right.

Jerome made it 3-1 with a minute to go from Gary McSheffrey's ball into the box.

Muamba wrapped it up in stoppage time with a free header.

rather depressin day i must say. i blame hughes to be honest. as great as he has been this season, making those substitutions was just stupid when we had control of the game with emerton playin a blinder and pedersen playin good too. i almost wish villa had won now so it isnt as hard to take

What da ****.
Dam guy messed up my entire day.
Word of advice Mark.
"beat the Sh!t teams and you will make Europe every year"
make no dam sence beating top four tams to loose to 18th place team.

Gutted and finding today very hard to take, cant belive we threw it away so badly. After seeing villa only drew the game it makes it much harded to take. After the anger and beer has worn off I think I will accept the 7th place as after all we have spent no money at all. I just hope we can give hughesy the money he needs to buy a couple of players to make us even more competative next season. Enjoy your summer all.

This is one match I'm pleased to have missed, due to the outrageous ticket prices (far too much for a family of four) given the abysmal performance seen on television.
How frustrating. Again, we didn't play at all in the first half. We then capitulate against a team who knew they had been relegated. Simple fact, if we'd have won, we'd be in the Intertoto.
In reality, we don't deserve to be there as we aren't good enough and today only underlined how the squad needs shaking-up.
Hughes has done a great job again, seventh place finish, pity a lot of the players were found wanting.

I honestly can't believe it. If nothing else I could say what an embarrasing defeat. After Gamst scored I thought we were back in the game. Even though West ham helped us out we couldn't do it. Our defence was all over the place. Europe dreams have all faded away. I'm in tears. Let's hope we do better next season and get into Europe even though this season was brill. Great management Hughsie and great team play Rovers. Congratulations to Fulham for surviving relegation, and it's a shame Chelsea couldn't win the Premiership.
HAVE A GREAT SUMMER EVERY ONE!!!

Well what can i say.
After a hard season i couldnt motivate the lads enough to beat a relegated team.
Not only motivate them but they gave us a massive spanking!
I ALONG WITH EVERYBODY INCLUDING THE FANS THOUGHT THAT WE JUST HAD TO TURN UP AND WE WOULD WIN!
But that what we get for being arrogant and i think the supporters got what they deserved.
We have finished 7th but as far as europe goes we could have finshed 16th and it wouldnt have mattered!
The season has finished and we will move David on because he has the right to play in europe.
We may also move Roque on because he deserves better.
If it had not been for those two then i think we would have been the ones relegated today.
So i wish all 18.000 fans a good summer and say a prayer to hope that David stays.

Well another Season for the Blue and Whites is Over, let's not look at the faults , let's look at the positives ok people,Santa Cruz, Top Scorer for us, Iam sure Benny will come back into his own next season,as for all the talk about who is staying, who is going through the exit door at Ewood Park, I would Like us to buy a proper right back, someone like the lad who played today for b.ham, kelly, how we didn't look at him I don't know, maybe Huddlestone at Spurs,as I can see them having a clear out this season, he would be good for us, as for the exit, I know some of you wouldn't like it but maybe Roberts will be on his way, who to get to replace him then?how about Jerome who scored today for b.ham, or doyle frm reading, miller who scored last week for derby, god knows how, looks a good little player.I would leave it at that, as I don't think major sugery is needed at all, Tugay to become a player-coach.

watched the match today and I must say Jason Roberts MUST go,he misses far to many chances,he never seems to have the ball under control and always scuffs his shot,he should`ve
put the game to bed when it was 1-1,but has usual he cocked it up,same versus Derby terrible control etc,SELL him and buy Leroy Lita.

Rovers have had a marvellous season, given how little money was spent.

7th position is a fantastic achievement for a side who have spent next to nothing.

We were rubbish today, but i have got to say that finishing 7th in the league on 58 points is still a fantastic thing for Blackburn. I also have to say that you Rovers fans can be to harsh on the team, you have to consider the strength of the league and the finances we have available to us, to recognise we have done blummin well this season. And maybe its about time we stop kicking Rovers and start supporting them!

I am not taking anything away from the fact that we were rubbish today, and it is embarrasing losing like that and to a team like that, but you really do have to put things in perspective!

Passport,Passport a dim witted insult if I have had one levelled me?

What the f**k do I care what you have to say relating to BRFC? You maybe deluded concerning BRFC but I'm not. I always have my eye on the ball. I'm flattered you've considered me in your post though.

Our season as been a success all things considered. My dissapointment as no relevence to what you have to say & make no bones about it you can look on with envy again next season. In fact I would go as far to say that what you have to say is a compliment really 'laughing at our missing europe' quip....Which ever club you profess to pledge your loyalty it's fair to say you've done F**k all.....AGAIN

But hey no doubt BRFC will be up at the higher reaches of the Prem next season fighting for a place in Europe & I can live with that. Obviously you cant but hey !!

Thanks again.

Why are all these gypsies from burnley getting so xcited?
Ok we lost a game 4-1, at the time brum went 2-1 up, reading were winning 3-0, so they were relagated regardless, making it a meaningless fixture. No where near as embaressing as losing 5-1 vs palace.

Your poxy club will never be as big as us, so face it. Your making fools of yourself. Now get yourselfs onto google, and start planning your route to get ur caravans 2 swansea next season. Leave the big guns alone, you to us are nothing.

I see there are a lot of jealous Burnley fans on here. They can only dream that their team was pushing for european football. Oh well Rovers did not quite make it but at least we Rovers fans can look forward to playing the elite in English football again next season just imagine if we had to play Swansea, Plymouth and other crap teams in the Chumpionship .This is where the green eyed monster rears its ugly head as Burnley would love to do what Rovers do week in week out. Enjoy next season in the chumpionship you retards.

Really disappointed with todays performance but looking on the positive side,we improved on last seasons points total by 6 points and banked another £10,000,000 by finishing 7th,thats on top of the millions sky as already ploughed into Blackburn Rovers, with the new improved deal. When you are a small town club in the PREMIERSHIP and you only spend £2m nett in the transfer market that is a remarkable achievement in itself. To be honest, success for Rovers is getting to 42 points and guaranteed PREMIERSHIP status for another season, anything else is a bonus.Mark Hughes knows that the squad will need to be improved next season and as probably identified his targets already. To all Rovers supporters have a great summer and we can all look forward to watching our small but proud club compete in the'Best and Richest'league in the world, against the best in europe. To the sad Burnley supporters currently posting on here, keep paying your sky subscriptions that continue to enable your arch enemies the opportunities to 'live the dream' season after season, while your sad even smaller club can't get into the Championship play offs or afford to replace those uncomfortable 1970 wooden seats in the cricket field stand, you sad losers.

Why are we talking about Burnley? They're insignificant... sorry, I meant irrelevant. I didn't see the game but the stats suggest some bad decisions by Sparky today. Still, he gets most of them right, hence our position in the Premier League. 7th place is a fine achievement for Blackburn. We aren't a 'big club’; we just punch above our weight, consistently. I'm proud of the boys. Well done Rovers.

How can 4-1 be "no where near as embaressing" as 5-1 you pr1ck. There was nothing whatsoever on the palace game for us. You were going to Birmingham to qualify for europe and got dicked. Wake up and smell the roses you dickhead. And you wonder why everyone laughs at you lot.
Because birmingham are a far superior side to palace. I won't lose sleep over uefa cup, neither will the players I doubt. Its a micky mouse tournament, just look at the finalists.

Also, if what ur saying is true, why are u getting urself so wind up about it?
looks like I touched a nerve.

I called up on Sat for a ticket but theyd sold out. Thanks for the respect Roversgirl in fairness ive read some of your posts and I think u make alot of sense.

Its been ok this season but im glad its over. Someone posted earlier saying Emerton and Gamst had great games, they both looked dire to me, granted Gamst got a tap in but still was poor Emerton was as usual garbage.

Roversgirl, Mike, Robbie and Jay have a good summer. Ive enjoyed the banter with you guys. I know ive been a wined up merchant alot this year but being from Wrexham I think its sumthing they put in the water down here.

Steve great post.

Considering the dissapointment today you've equaled it out really well pal.

Here's to 08/09.

JAMIE must try harder!! If all else fails then try again!!

I got a ticket off these very pages from a guy who had a spare !!

I'm still waiting for your response to the £10 'gesture bet' relating to Emerton?

Last week you was nicking my qoute 'Emerton as a rolls royce engine' too
Emerton was as usual garbage.
!!

So which are you going for?

One thing you've correctly assessed is
I know ive been a wined up merchant alot this year
!!

Hopefully you'll have moved on to another team next season & wind some other supporter u(not your own!!)

Over & out.................

A dissapointing result today, however i would class this season as being a good season. A 7th place finish in other seasons would guarantee a Uefa spot, however this wasn't to be. Considering the amount of money spent on the squad in comparison to Man City, Portsmouth and West Ham our performance has been exceotional. I doubt that we will ever break into the top in the current climate, however we must continue to punch above our weight and continue to battle for European football.
I love the fact that Burnley fans take this opportunity to rip into us after a premiership defeat, however one point i would like to raise is...have Burnley ever played a premiership game?!?! So as long as you're playing sub-standard football and we continue to battle it out with the best teams in the world, i suggest you wind your neck in you thick, incest loving, rovers envious b@stards!!

Even though we didn´t get to europe we had a good but not great season. As many of you have pointed out we didn´t spend as big as most of the other teams did. Hope that Sparky get´s the funds to get the players he want´s so we will be even better next season. Thanx Rovers for another season in the Premier league

Sour grapes Mike!
Eufa Cup meant a hell of a lot to us.
I wouldnt be so p!ssed off if it didnt!
Ok we have finished 7th but if we had a better squad and won our easier games we would be in europe.
Your not a proper fan mike so thats what doesnt bother me to much.
I along with many other Rovers fans am truly gutted, 7th is good for the money but at the end of the day, thats our best season and if we dont improve our squad we wont be doing it again!

Thats got to be a prank!
ha ha ha ha Cappello wont last long if thats the garbage he's picking!
Warnock gets caught out of position so many times, no wonder he couldnt get in Liverpool side.
Never mind Mr Cappello, you live and learn from your mistakes and im sure you'l learn when he pushes forward, loses the ball then fouls when he tries to get back!
Ha ha ha ha ha ha still got to check though because Warnock is a bad one, honestly he is.

Hi Dean,
I remeber you.
The funny thing is that i was reading my e-mails and i thought i would read this site after i noticed all the posts.
I remember saying that if i moved on i would reveal who i was but without giving too much away i wont be going anywhere after signing a new deal last week.
We are in this morning for a few hours so il be setting off soon but thanks for your support and that of all the fans.
The season didnt finished how most of us would have liked it to but the possotives of it outweigh the negatives.
During this year there has been posts of frustration from supporters, some making comments on players commitments to the club.
Well whoever puts on that shirt is 100% commited and i can honestly say we are all bitterly disapointed we didnt quallify for the EUFA Cup but we can have a hard pre-season, see who the gaffer adds and push on hard next season.
Thanks Dean, and all Rovers fans for your support!

We got everything we should have out of the game - Sweet Fa, the players did not look interested, it was clear they had their heads on the beach, personally i would fine every single one of them.

very poor end to a good season, out main slip up again this season, dropping to many points against the lower teams.

saying that i am happy to be the 7th best team in england. here is to next season.
