Blackburn Rovers trio sign new deals
PROUD FATHER: Rovers' Matt Derbyshire
PROUD FATHER: Rovers' Matt Derbyshire

BLACKBURN Rovers have secured the futures of Stephen Warnock, Matt Derbyshire and Martin Olsson on new long-term deals.

The three players, who all figured in Saturday's 3-1 victory over Derby County, have signed four-year contracts, which tie them to Rovers until the summer of 2012.

Chairman John Williams told the Lancashire Telegraph: "We are delighted to get these deals done.

"Stability is our watchword and we feel it's important to secure the futures of our players across the full range of the squad, whether they are established first-team regulars or up-and-coming young talent.

"I also hope to be able to announce some more contract renewals this summer, which will further underline our status as a non-selling club."

Manager Mark Hughes is a great believer in the values of stability and continuity, and the signings of Warnock, Derbyshire and Olsson mean that virtually 50 per cent of the current first-team squad is now contracted to the club for at least the next three years or longer.

Warnock, who still had two years to run on his existing deal, has been a virtual ever present in the first team since he joined the club from Liverpool in January 2007, proving to be one of the country's most consistent left-backs.

Derbyshire has also developed into an important member of the senior squad, and his new deal reflects his excellent progress over the last 18 months.

His old contract, signed in January 2007, was due to expire in the summer of 2010.

Meanwhile, Rovers also have high hopes for Olsson, who made his second Premier League appearance as a substitute against Derby at the weekend.

The 19-year-old, who was crowned Rovers' Young Player of the Year at the club's end-of-season awards evening last night, signed two years ago from Swedish side Hogaborgs BK, and is seen by many as a first-team star of the future.

I would first like to say how well Rovers have done this season. long time Rovers Fan that emigrated to Australia when i was 14 11 yrs ago. It is a little hard to follow all aspect of Rovers as Football is the national sport over here. Martin Olsson. Can any body tell me much about this lad? Derbyshire is a raw talent and Warnock is a great defender. Rovers have a small following over here but its true blue and white fans. I am so proud of Rovers and i were all the latest strips down under, even though i cop a lot of ****. UP THE ROVERS. WE WILL GET IN EUROPE THIS YEAR CHAMPIONJS LEAGUE NEXT YEAR. FOOTBALL IS MASSIVE DOWN HEAR NOW SINCE AUSTRALIA DID WELL IN THE LAST WORLD CUP AND I THINK RUPERT MURDOCH THE OWNER OF FOX AND FELLOW AUSSIE SHOULD BUY THE CLUB. WE CAN ONLY DREAM

Anyone else worried about sunday?? The Birmingham fans are a bit naughty, and if we get a draw or win, we'll be sending them down. No doubt we'll be rubbing it in, in the away end 2. But im dreading walking out after the match. Perhaps I'll b wearing a coat over my shirt, to keep me warm (and alive).

Excellent news, well done John Williams, let's clinch a few more and I will be happy. C'mon David Bentley, Rovers will make certain that they allow you to play to your talents rather than joining the rotation clubs.

As for Birmingham, my ticket is bought and I will be on my way to wave bye-bye to the Blues. As for those who talk about the Zulus I guess you must have read about them in a history book. The Brum supporters are a good bunch and are loyal to their club but unfortunately for them we need those three points.

Proud of the fact that their turd bore support are all hooligans. Top of the fighting league, bottom of the football league. Cant spell or talk sense either.
Enjoy your season of mediocracy did you?
Good.

good news to hear. warnock has got what he rightly deserves because that left back has been such a problem position for us but hes made his own and will hopefuuly keep it for many years to come. and derbs though he aint played loads recently is a talent we need to keep beacause he is a natural finisher and has been v important especially when coming on off the bench
