IN-FORM hitman Roque Santa Cruz has set his sights on the magical 20 goals mark following his brace in the 3-1 victory against Wigan.
The Paraguayan international, who has been a revelation since he joined Blackburn from Bayern Munich last summer, took his personal tally for the campaign to 18 with his double against the Latics.
But while the 26-year-old has already surpassed all expectations during a fine debut season in English football, Santa Cruz insists he won't be truly happy unless he breaks through the 20-goals barrier, which is the barometer by which all strikers like to be judged.
"I am very happy with my total of 18 goals so far," said Rovers' leading scorer, who has now scored five times against Wigan alone this term.
"I am just going to keep trying for the rest of the season and, hopefully, keep scoring.
"My first season has gone well but I won't be happy unless I keep scoring so we will see how things go."
Although Santa Cruz has stopped short of setting himself any specific targets for the run-in, he feels at least two more goals during the remaining seven games is the minimum requirement.
"Twenty is seen as the magic number but who knows? I am not going to make any targets - let's just see how far I can I go before the end of the season," said the striker.
"The philosophy of the team, and how they play, affect how many opportunities you get as a striker.
"As a striker, you could end up with less chances to score (if the team doesn't play well)."
Rovers boss Mark Hughes paid just £3.8 million to land Santa Cruz last summer, which now looks like one of the best pieces of transfer business in the Premier League over the last 12 months.
When he first arrived in England, one of the biggest question marks against the South American was his goals record, because he had never scored more than six goals in a season during his eight-year stay at Bayern.
However, Santa Cruz has since answered his critics in the most emphatic way possible, which has earned him the respect of the fans and his new team-mates.
Recognising his contribution to Rovers' European push, strike-partner Jason Roberts, who also got on the scoresheet against Wigan, said: "Roque's been fantastic.
"You only have to look at the amount of goals he has scored in his first season in English football to see he's been different class.
"He works hard, he scores goals, and he's effective.
"I think the only problem he has had in the past has been injuries but it looks like he's going to go through this season fit, and if he does that then it will be a big step for him.
"If his fitness isn't a problem, then I think he will score goals and put in top-class performances - no danger.
"It would be an outstanding achievement if he scored 20 goals in his first season in England, and I don't see any reason why he won't.
"Since he's come here, he's been unreal, very much like Benni (McCarthy) was last year.
"It's unbelievable and fair play to the manager for bringing him here."
Rovers' victory over Wigan, coupled with results elsewhere, means they still have an excellent chance of qualifying for the Intertoto Cup, and hopefully Europe.
Santa Cruz added: "Everyone wants to play in the UEFA Cup again.
"We want to end up in exactly the position we have been planning for since the start of the season.
"It's going to be tough but it is still a very realistic possibility and we are in a position where we believe we can achieve our goals."

Blackburn's Bentley wanted by Liverpool tribalfooball.com - March 23, 2008 It is believed that Rafael Benitez is confident of making David Bentley a Liverpool player. There has been reports that Liverpool are set to make a £12million bid for the 23-year-old winger, claims Kop-TV. It is known that both Liverpool and Atletico Madrid are in a tug-of-war over the young English winger. Liverpool are desperately looking for a winger to replace Harry Kewell whose contract is running out soon. Furthermore, Bentley is proven in the Premier league. The England winger contracts run out in July 2011, which means Liverpool or Atletico may have to fork out a large sum to get their man. Obviously Bentley will be sold at some time, but it has to be for a hell of a lot more than what has been mentioned in the media - we should explore that prices are over inflated!
AND MH has proven that he will not sell key players even if they want to go - i. e Mcarthy and Roberts. This is the way to go - except when players "give up" like Benni.

I wouldn't worry about Bentley going to Liverpool chances are Benitez wont even be there next season. As for Roberts getting a run in the team at the min I can only see Hughes doing this so he can put him in the shop window for the summer. The more goals he scores from now till the end of the season the more money we will get for him in the summer
