Bellamy saga takes another twist

BLACKBURN target Craig Bellamy appears to be edging closer to the exit door at Liverpool after he allegedly admitted he wants to quit Anfield this summer.

Former Wales international, Malcolm Allen, claims the striker confided in him at the weekend, and during that conversation he said Bellamy cited his lack of first team opportunities under Rafa Benitez as the reason he wants out.

Bellamy has since issued a strenuous denial, describing Allen's comments as complete garbage', but sources on Merseyside believe the striker is simply trying to limit the damage amid fears it may wreck his chances of being part of Liverpool's Champions League semi-final clash with Chelsea tonight.

News of the latest revelations has alerted Blackburn manager Mark Hughes, who, given the slightest encouragement that Bellamy might be available, will launch a bid to bring him back to Ewood this summer, a year after he left Rovers for Liverpool in a £6 million transfer.

Aston Villa manager, Martin O'Neill, and Sunderland chief, Roy Keane, are also ready to enter the race for the Welshman should Liverpool make him available.

However, Hughes is hoping the fact he was instrumental in resurrecting Bellamy's career during his previous spell at Blackburn may yet work in his favour.

Speaking on BBC Wales, Allen, who was reporting on Liverpool's game at Portsmouth, said: "I spoke to him (Bellamy) before the game here on the pitch and he told me it has been a very disappointing year for him, that he hasn't got a working relationship with Rafa Benítez, that they hardly speak to each other at the moment, and that the situation has become clear that for his own sake, and for his own career, he wants to play consistently, he wants to play in the first team week in, week out, and he hasn't been getting those opportunities at Liverpool."

Bellamy responded by releasing a statement of his own but, while he scotched rumours of a fall-out with Benitez, it was perhaps significant that at no point did he say he was happy to stay at Anfield next season.

The 27-year-old told Liverpool's official website: "A journalist working for BBC Wales has told people I have problems with Rafa and haven't even got a working relationship with him. That's complete garbage.

"I have gone on record recently and I will say it again now that I have learnt more from Rafael Benitez than any other coach I have worked with.

"I am a much better player for the time I've spent working with him and if I do go on to manage at some point in the future he's the model I'll use in my career.

"I can't make my respect for him any clearer than that."

HA HA HA

Where are the big spending and better managed Villa in the league?

If Bellamy goes anywhere, it wont be to Villa. He'd rather go to Sunderland or, come to think of it, Southport!

I think bellamy should come back to rovers, he is strong with our team and will play well with most of our players, he may want a different scene but if not i am sure he will come back to rovers, i always said he was a rover through and through

I feel a little sorry for Bellers, we should never have signed him. The way we play with lots of passes and a slow build up never lets him use his biggest asset, pace, and he was always going to struggle. I think he should go to Villa or Blackburn, just for the sake of his own career.

I like Bellars. He is passionate and a winner. Unfortunately, he doesn't score enough goals and that is simply not good enough for Liverpool. Good luck to the lad.

I don't think this so called bust up with Craig and Rafa is true, but Bellamy is really good enough to be in almost any first eleven in the premiership.

He did let us (Blackburn) down last summer when he left us, but I think any footballer would have done the same to play for his favourite club.

I seem to recall Craig saying "I would have rejected any other club in the world except Liverpool" when he left us.. if he really meant that, he will surely pick Rovers in front of Villa, Sunderland or which teams that will bid for him. If he signs for Rovers I will forgive him for being in Liverpool for a year, cos at least then I will know he was honest.

A Bellamy/McCarthy partnership would surely be one of the best in England!

From what I saw of Bellamy at Rovers I can't understand why Liverpool don't play him every game! The guy is superb. And I can't wait till he comes back!

Not forgetting Derbyshire or Roberts who will also definatly get starts. Roberts had an unlucky start with injury - Did good for Wigan an theyve stugled without him this season. Derbyshires done the club proud.

Bellemy's a good player, you need 4 strikers to really challange for european spots. If he's fit bellamy would be a starter, so mcarthy. Both will get injured at some point an you need the backup. Rafa isnt playing him as much at liverpool, as kuyt an Crouch are probably above him in the picking order. It would be good to see him in the starting line up, for rovers again.
If mark wants him, then get him. Look at Samba. Class.

Bellamy is a great player, but he is the kind of guy who needs to fell like he is the superstar or his performance level just isn't there. I think that he was allowed to take the superstar position at Blackburn and he loved it. He may not find things as comfortable with Benni at the club and MGP and Bently coming on so much. There is also the emergance of the old Dunny in recent weeks that mean Bellamy would have to find a place in a team of 'stars'.

I also think that Bellamy isn't the right sort of quality for Liverpool, they need a 10 out of 10 rather than an 8 out of 10 player, more a Drogba level player.

Bellamy is a good player, but he is not quite at the level Liverpool need. I wish him well at Blackburn (or Villa) next season.
