    Hawks ready for crucial double-header

Blackburn Hawks are gearing up for an exciting ice hockey cup double this weekend as they host two top ties at the Arena.

Hawks entertain the Whitley Braves tonight in the English Cup before playing host to Kingston Jets 24 hours later in the same competition (face off 5.45pm for both games) After a 6-3 defeat away to Dundee Stars in the Northern League last time out, Hawks will be hoping to pick up a couple of positive results.

Hawks general manager Konrad Tapp is confident that his side can emerge victorious in both games - if they are at their best.

"Whitley are a young and relatively inexperienced side, but they have improved a great deal lately," admitted Tapp. "However with the strength in depth in our squad, I am quietly confident of a victory.

"It could be a different story when Kingston visit for the first time this season. They have notched up a few surprise wins recently so it will not be easy.

"Both sides need the points though so it will definitely be passionate and we have shown we are more than capable of beating them in the past. I hope a large number of fans will come and cheer us on."

The Hawks have won their previous three encounters in this competition, but had their most recent 9-1 victory chalked off as they iced an ineligible netminder in Gary Russell.

Mark Arnone is still missing with a broken wrist, while Michael Brunton is a doubt.
