Blackburn Hawks 3 Solway Sharks 3

BLACKBURN Hawks shared the spoils in a nailbiting 3-3 Northern League draw with Solway Sharks in front of a large and vocal crowd at Blackburn Arena.

The visitors started brightly, but it was the home team who took the lead against the run of play when Sam Dunford's deflected shot looped over the stranded Sharks' netminder.

Solway were soon back on level terms in what was proving to be a tight and niggly encounter up until the third period, which produced a flurry of action and goals.

The Sharks took the lead early in the third only to be swiftly pegged back by a Hawks equaliser - Chris Arnone slotting home after being found in acres of space.

The balance of the game swung again, with the Sharks going into the lead for a second time after a swift counter attack.

With a vociferous crowd urging them forward, Hawks went in search of another leveller and Ryan O'Reilly duly obliged, picking the ball up on the opposing blue line, before showing pace and strength to hold off his marker then flick the puck over the helpless keeper.

The home fans went wild and although both teams had several late opportunities, the two netminders stood firm to ensure a draw at the final buzzer. Ian McDade was named the MVP (Most Valuable Player).

Due to time constraints, the home team were forced to forfeit extra-time, giving the Sharks two points and restricting Hawks to just one.
