UP FOR THE CUP: The Longshaw Junior School team who were crowned Blackburn and Darwen Sports Hall Athletics champions at Shadsworth Leisure Centre
LONGSHAW Junior School are the Sportshall Athletics champions of Blackburn and Darwen thanks to some strong arm' tactics.
The Blackburn school were head-and-head with St Gabriels after the running and jumping - but clinched victory after impressing in the throwing events.
The tournament, held at Shadsworth Lesiure Centre, involved nine winning teams from high school cluster events held throughout January and February.
Teams consisted of 12 pupils (six girls and six boys) who competed in the long jump, triple junp and speed bounce, running events one lap hurdle, two and four lap race and 12x1 lap relay.
And the throwing events of overhead throw, chest throw and target throw.
Longshaw, who are a cluster school for Witton Park, topped the table with 138 points ahead of St Gabriels (St Wilfrids) on 121pts with St James, Blackburn (Bearwood) third with 114 pts.

Other schools to take part were Shadsworth Juniors (Blakewater), St Peters, Darwen (Darwen Vale), St James Lower Darwen (Darwen Moorland) and Holy Souls (Our Lady and St John).
St Pauls (St.Bedes) won their heat but were unable to attend the final.
Lots of parent and teachers supported the event while Young Leaders from Blakewater, St.Bedes, Darwen Moorland and Witton Park coordinated the finals.
The event was organised by the Blackburn with Darwen PE and School sports team.
They will be hosting a four week trial at Shadsworth Leisure Centre from Wednesday, April 4 (4-5pm) to select a team to represent the borough in the Lancashire Youth Games which take place in Blackpool in June.
