CHORLEY runners competed in the prestigious Ian Hodgson Fell relays on Sunday and achieved their best performance ever.

Starting and finishing in Patterdale in Cumbria, the race comprises four legs, Patterdale to Hartsop, Hartsop to Kirkstone Pass, Kirkstone Pass to Brothers Water and Brothers Water to Patterdale, making a 25-mile circuit.

The first leg saw the novice pairing of Nicola Raby and Sarah Parkinson, with Dominic Raby and Adam Chritchley, on the second leg.

Then it was the turn of Hassan Khattab and Dawn Atkins before Darren Fishwick and Lynn Clough, completed the final leg to bring the team’s total overall time to four hours 52min 5secs, a new club record, and achieving 2nd placed mixed team.

Todmorden Harriers finished the race in 16th position, with Andrew Horsfall, Paul Hobbs, Marcel Ellison, Nick Barber, Andrew Wrench, Jon Wright, Andy McFie and Craig Stansfield making up their eight.

Alex Cran, Simon Kelly, Dave Motley, Dave Walker, Neil Hardiman, Paul Hesketh, Andy Brown and Breton Holdsworth took Clayton-le-Moors to 18th.

Clayton’s veteran team came 10th in their category, with Lisa Richardson, Barbara Savage, Anna Kelly, Juliet Horrocks, Kath Wallis, Wendy Dodds, Alison Dugdale and Jean Brown in their team.

Darwen Dashers’ Peter Murphy, Kevin Doherty, Mark France, Jonathan Bruton, Jonathan Stubbs, Gareth Taylor, Julian Donnelly and Kevin Smith finished in 51st.

Elsewhere Chorley’s Mike Chalfont finished the Good Shepherd Fell Race in Mytholmroyd in 12th. Team-mate Joe Duckworth finished 12th in the Oulton Park autumn duathlon.

Clayton’s Candice Heys finished second in the Lakeland Trails race.
