Five Clayton Harriers ladies made the trip to Kielder Forest in Northumberland for the final race in the FRA English Championships – Kielder Blast, a six-mile course, with 1,500ft of ascent on steep forest paths and trails. Jean Brown, Alison Dugdale and Anna Kelly, ably supported by Wendy Dodds and Katy Thompson, were second lady veterans’ team, securing a silver medal for the team in the veteran ladies’ championships.

For the first time in 30 years, Clayton provided the winner of the Thieveley Pike Fell Race last Saturday.

Andy Brown followed up his win at Sedbergh Hills by coming home first in 35.53, nearly two minutes ahead of his closest rival, Mark Taylor. A great performance by Horwich’s Graham Schofield saw him claim sixth place, first M55. In a close contest, Calder Valley took the men’s team prize with the Clayton team in third position.
