Hyndburn medal joy at school event

HYNDBURN AC turned in almost a dozen medallists during a superb show at the 2012 Lancashire AA & Lancashire Schools AA Combined Events Championships.

Young athletes from all over the county and further afield competed at Wilson Playing Fields, Clayton-le-Moors, with the event valid for students in years eight to 13.

Over 20 athletes turned out from Hyndburn and they came away with a series of excellent results.

Leading the way were decathlon duo Stephen Sumner and Josh Blysniuk, both taking gold in their respective senior mens and under 20 races.

A third gold medal was also picked up by William Waller in the U13 boys pentathlon.

Silver medals were achieved by Lois McTiffin in the girls’ quadrath-lon, Oliver Chambers in the boys’ equivalent and William Moynihan in the U15 boys pentathlon.

Elle Ofoluwa (U13 girls miniathlon), Callum Dunn (U13 boys miniathlon), Marnie Shirtcliffe (intermediate girls heptathlon), Louis Ofoluwa (intermediate boys octathlon) and Jack Hutchinson (boys quadrathlon) took bronze medals for Hyndburn.

Blackburn Harriers also tasted gold medal joy, with Polly Pearce winning the junior girls pentathlon, Hannah Cookson in the U13 girls miniathlon, Seth Elliott in the boys quadrathlon, and Joseph Pearse in the intermediate boys octathlon among the winners.

Pendle AC pair Gregan Baker and Spencer Phelan were first and second in the U13 boys miniathlon, while Natrika Wildman took third in the junior girls pntathlon.
