* The Lancashire Schools 2012 Cross Country Championships are being held at Leyland’s Worden Park this Saturday.
The races begin at 11am with the year 7 girls, followed by the year 7 boys at 11.20am. The other times are: 11.40am junior girls, 12.05pm junior boys, 12.35 inter-girls, 1.10 inter-boys, 1.45pm senior girls, 2.15 senior boys * The popular Pennine Bridleway Relay gets under way on Sunday at 8.30am at the Fearns Community Sports College, Booth Road, in Waterfoot.
The race consists of five legs run in pairs in a clockwise circuit around the Mary Towneley Loop.
Entries invited from men, ladies, vets, mixed (five men and five ladies with a man and a lady on each leg) or composite teams.
Online entry only. Go to penninebridlewayrelay.co.uk * The Blackburn Road Runners Winter Warmer 10K takes place this Sunday at 11am.
The annual event takes place on the athletics track and runs up past Witton school, then up Buncer Lane before moving on to Tower Road and eventually back to the athletics Track.
Entry fee for runners is adults £6 and children (age 6 to 16) £2 for the 2.5K Fun Run.
* Sunday, March 11 is date for the oldest multi-terrain race in the north west at Abbey Village, near Chorley, in the shape of the 24th Roddlesworth Roller and Daffodil Doddle.The races start at 11am and 12.30pm.Entry fee is £6.50 per club. * The fifth meeting of the Mid Lancs Cross Country Championships takes place in Barrow in Furness on Saturday, February 12.
The race time start as follows: 12.30pm U11 Girls, 12.45pm U11 Boys, 1pm U13 Girls, 1.20pm U15 Girls and U13 Boys, 1.40pm U15 Boys and U17 Women, 2pm U17 Men; Junior, Senior & Vet Women, 2.30pm Junior, Senior and Vet Men.
* Organisers Horwich RMI Harriers are gearing up for the Winter Hill Fell Race that takes place on Sunday, February 12.
The tricky 11-mile race, with 2,750 feet of climb, begins at 10am from Rivington Barn, near Horwich.
Entry is £6 with a form from horwichrmiharriers.co.uk or £10 on the day.
* The 42nd Annual Parbold Hill Race will be held on Saturday, February 11 at 2pm.
The race starts at the Richard Durning’s school, Bispham Green and goes over Parbold Hill via farmers’ fields, roads and muddy tracks before returning to the school 6.8 miles later.
Entry fee is £7.50, plus £1.50 on the day, although entries are now very limited. Contact John Thompson on 01257 453778 for more details.
* Help is being provided to athletes that have gained entry to this year’s London Marathon but require travel and accomodation.
Once again, Harry Haseley of Accrington Road Runners is providing a special Olympic transport package, which includes pick-up and travel from East Lancashire to London, accomodation on Saturday, April 21, transport to registration on the Saturday afternoon, breakfast on Sunday morning, coach to the start of the marathon and transport back to East Lancashire.
