* The Lancashire Athletic Association’s Cross Country Championships will be held at Blackburn’s Witton Park on Saturday.
Athletes must be aged eight or over with junior races starting at 11am.
The final event of the day, the over 40s race, is at 2pm.
Entries are expected to be available up until race day, costing £4 for under 17s and £6 for others.
Entry forms are available at www.race-results.co.uk * Entries are still being accepted for the Garstang 10k Road Race that takes place this Sunday.
It begins at 11am from Gartstang High School, Bowgreave, with £8 entry, and there is also a family fun run.

* The Coxy Memorial New Year Awakener 5k – which was scheduled to be held in Oswaldtwistle this Sunday – has now been cancelled. A new date for the event is to be arranged.
* The fourth fixture of the Mid Lancs Cross Country League gets under way at Wilson Playing Fields, in Hyndburn, on Saturday, January 14.
Race times are: 12.30pm U11 Girls, 12.45pm U11 Boys, 1pm U13 Girls, 1.20pm U15 Girls and U13 Boys, 1.40pm U15 Boys and U17 Women, 2pm U17 Men; Jnr, Snr & Vet Women, 2.30pm Jnr, Snr and Vet Men.
The league is at its halfway point after meetings in Burnley, Liverpool and Chorley in the last three months of 2011.
The last two fixtures are in Leyland and Barrow.
* The Ashurst Beacon Fell Race takes place on Saturday, January 14.
The 5.9m race, with 950 feet of climb, starts at 12.30pm from Prince William Inn, Dalton, Upholland, in West Lancashire.

* The Trigger Race is a new fell race for 2012 taking place on Sunday, January 15.
The event is over a 20 mile course and 4,500ft of climb with runners navigating their way from Marsden to Edale via Black Hill, Bleaklow and Kinder, taking in 3 trig points on the route.
It is not a race for the faint hearted!
Entry forms and further details are available on the organisers web site www.racekit.co.uk * Pendle Forest Orienteers have organised one of their first events of 2012 to be held at Marsden Park, in Nelson, on Saturday, January 21.
Registration will be open between 10am and 12pm, with starts from 10.30am until 12.30pm.
The events will usually cost £2 for juniors and £4 for seniors.

The five-mile course, in support of Great Britain’s 2012 Olympic 400m hopeful Andrew Steele takes in moorland tracks at Rakewood and Whittaker and a fast downhill finish.
