* The next meeting of the Mid Lancs Cross Country League is being held at Astley Park, in Chorley, on Sunday.

The start times are: U11 girls 12.30pm, U11 boys 12.45pm, U13 girls 1pm, U15 girls & U13 boys 1.20pm, U15 boys & U17 women 1.40pm, U17 men; junior, senior and veteran women 2pm, junior, senior and veteran men 2.30pm * The Mytholmroyd Fell Race, organised by Halifax Harriers AC, is on Saturday, starting at 11am.

The popular seven-mile event, starting at Mytholmroyd Community Centre, just off the A646 Burnley Road, has 1,350 feet of climb.

* The 28th 7-mile Longridge Road Race takes place this Sunday, to runners aged 16 and over.

It starts at 11am at Longridge Civic Hall, off Berry Lane.

There is a Christmas pudding to all finishers. Entry fee is £9 to UK club runners and £11 unattached, with an extra £2 for entries on the day.

* Organisers of the Hurst Green Turkey Trail Race declare it ‘the most scenic five-mile trail race in the area’.

It takes place on Sunday, December 18, starting at 1pm.

Registration is at the Bayley Arms, Avenue Road, Hurst Green, BB7 9QB.

Pre-entry is £5, with £7 entry on the day. A prize of £50 is up for grabs to anyone who breaks the course records, and £100 to sub-27 minute runners. A large list of festive prizes are also on offer.

* Accrington Road Runners will be holding their annual Christmas Dinner and Presentation evening tomorrow (Friday) at Clitheroe Golf Club starting at 7pm.

There will be a four course meal and a disco. Tickets are available from Louise McAuley.

* Darwen Dashers Christmas Do and Presentation Evening is on Saturday at Darwen Cricket Club, Birch Hall.

Arrival is at 7pm for a 7.30pm start. There will be a hot and cold buffet with the presentation taking place at 9pm. Tickets are available from any committee member.

* The Lynne Edmondson Memorial Cowm Reservoir Race is being held on Sunday December 18.

Andems Runners, assisted by Rochdale Harriers, are staging this 6,655m run around the scenic Cowm Reservoir and roads and bridlepaths.

The race starts at 10.30am from the Sportsman Pub, Market Street, Whitworth, near Rochdale (A671 Burnley Road).

Entry is £7 to unaffiliated runners, £5 to club runners and £1 extra on the day. All proceeds go to Springhill Hospice and there is a prize to all finishers and for category winners.

The five-mile course, in support of Great Britain’s 2012 Olympic 400m hopeful Andrew Steele takes in moorland tracks at Rakewood and Whittaker and a fast downhill finish.
