ROBERT Wong completed the clean sweep at the fourth and final Red Rose Cross County League meeting at muddy Marl Pits on Saturday.

The Blackburn Harriers youngster continued where he left off at Bolton’s Leverhulme Park last month by clinching a fourth straight win in the U15 boys category – clocking 16 minutes and 25 seconds, beating team-mate Connor Mahoney into second by 22 seconds.

In the process, Wong became the only athlete in all categories to win every meeting.

Mahoney came second in the overall standings, with Chorley AC’s Fergus Tallon in third and Blackburn’s Jack Hindle in fourth to help the Harriers team to victory.

Budding Clayton star Natalya Irvine came second overall in the U11 girls, but only after winning her first race of the season at Marl Pits. Hannah Cookson, of Blackburn Harriers, was third overall.

Pendle AC duo Kai Atkins and Tiaman Crorken had to settle for second place overall in the U11 boys and U13 boys respectively.

Elizbeth Greenwood confirmed herself as the number one U13 girl after winning three out of four races, the latter at the weekend, to pip Rossendale Harriers Corinna Howorth into second.

Rossendale’s Rebecca Flanagan was third in the U15 girls at Marl Pits, but a consistent campaign saw her take second in the overall standings.

Blackburn Harrier Dominic Mahoney won the final U17 men’s race of the campaign, but finished second overall to Oldham’s Adam Howard.

In the U20 ladies section, Rebecca Taylor of Blackburn Harriers held off the challenge of Rossendale’s Emma Flanagan.

Sarah Yeomans of Rossendale took third overall in the ladies category, with Taylor fourth and Flanagan fifth.

Rossendale duo Joseph Johnston and Christopher Fell were second and third respectively in the overall mens’s standings, with team-mate Nick Schofield in fifth.

Schofield was the leading Vet 45, with Mat Nuttall taking the Vet 40 honours and Clayton’s Paul Thompson in second. Matt Aspinall of Clayton took the Vet50 series prize.
