BLACKBURN Harriers athlete Holly Bleasdale believes she can break her personal best once more in the near future after securing her place in the Great Britain squad for this month’s World Championships.

The 19-year-old pole vaulter won Sunday’s UK trials event to confirm her first ever appearance in the World Championships, which take place in South Korean between August 27 and September 4.

Bleasdale had already reached the A standard to qualify, having last month jumped a stunning personal best of 4.70m – higher than any teenager in the history of the women’s pole vault.

She needed to finish in the top two at the weekend to confirm her place but won with a height of 4.56m.

After victory, Bleasdale said: “It feels really good. I won the indoor National Championships and I was really hoping to come here and win and secure my selection for the Worlds.

“I’ve done that. It was really good conditions, so it was a shame I couldn’t take advantage of that and jump the 4.71m. I thought 4.70m was going to be the highest I jumped this season, but from my very last jump today I know I’ve got more in me.

“A few tweaks in training and we can go from there.

“I’ve upped my training sessions. I’ve been working on technical aspects and now I want to put it all together.”
