Chorley Athletic Club’s John Wright has won two gold medals at the British Masters Track and Field Championships at the Cardiff International Sports Stadium.

The 51-year old won the Age 50-54 100 metre sprint in 12.28 seconds despite a slight groin strain, then powered to a win in the 200m the following day in 24.68 seconds.

Wright was the British number one in the 100m last year as well as being number two in the 200m, and he will now represent the North West in an Inter Regional event at Solihull.

Blackburn Harriers’ stalwart Mike Hazlewood won four medals in the same competition including gold in the javelin (44.02m) as well as silvers in the discus and shot and bronze in the hammer.

The 64-year old also took fourth in the weight in the 60-64 age band. Northern Veteran club members were fewer than usual because of the travel involved this year, but Leroy Golding’s trip proved fruitful as the Pendle man won bronze in the 40-44 discus at the age of 43.

The all rounder also took two fourth and three fifth places.
