* The 10th Anniversary Bleasdale Circle Fell Race takes place on Saturday at 11am from Bleasdale Parish Hall near Preston. Race distance is five miles with 1250 feet of climb and it could be an alternative for those who missed a place in the oversubscribed Noonstone on the same day. * Wigan Phoenix are the hosts for the Standish Hall Trail Race on Saturday at 2.30pm. Race distance is very approximately 10K. Registration is at the Britannia Hotel, Almond Brook Road, WN6 0SR (near M6 J27). Changing facilities are limited and the course is completely off road on bridle paths and woodland trails.
* Clayton-le-Moors Harriers are holding their Annual Presentation of Awards for 2009 on Saturday at Mytton Fold Hotel, Langho from 7.30pm. For tickets, contact Marie Greenwood at 01254 237485.
* The Lostock Six Mile Road Race is on Sunday at 11am after registration at Acorn’s Nursery, Lostock Lane, Lostock near Horwich, Bolton BL6 4BL. Every finisher will win a T-shirt.
* The Preston Docklands Five Mile Road Run is on Sunday at 11.00am from Carrfour Gym, Port Way, Ashton-on-Ribble, Preston PR2 2YQ. There is also Millie’s Mile at 10.30am to raise money for the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital. * Pendle Forest Orienteers are staging a series of local events again this spring which are suitable for families, beginners and experienced orienteers.
The timetable for every event is identical with each being on a Saturday with registration from 10am to noon and start times from 10.30am until noon. The first fixture at Marsden Park, Nelson on Saturday is billed as a ‘Come and Try It’ event when there will be short courses for beginners plus micro-orienteering for the more experienced competitors.
At all the events there will be a choice of White, Yellow and Orange courses where the colours denote the degree of difficulty, with a different Technical course also available at each venue. Electronic punching is being used, and you can hire a ‘dibber’ for a nominal sum of £1 (free for juniors). For further details, contact Hamish Willis on 07967 318501.
Subsequent meetings are on March 6 at Towneley Park in Burnley, March 20 at Wycollar Country Park in Trawden, May 8 at Sunnyhurst Woods in Darwen, May 22 at Hameldon Woods in Hapton, June 12 at Staghills Woods, Waterfoot, June 26 at Peel Park, Accrington and July 10 at Marl Pits, Rawtenstall.
