Harriers take Sportshall award

Blackburn Harriers have won both the U11 Boys and U11 Girls team awards at the final Lancashire Sportshall League meeting at Blackpool.

The Harriers play a full part in the U11 competition, but even though they field few athletes in the U13 and U15 sections they still managed third place in the league behind Preston and Blackpool.

That is one place up on last year when they were also beaten by Horwich and gives them their best ever result in the competition. Jack Jameson was the U11 Boys “Man of the Season” after getting the most points in his class over the three matches to keep the trophy in Blackburn hands after Sam Charnley won it last year.

Lancashire’s U13s and U15s will contest the NW Inter Counties Regional Final at Robin Park, Wigan on Sunday and two Ribble Valley AC girls have been chosen for the county with Gabriella Charnley in the U15s and Lucy Lennon in the U13s.

Unlucky Lucy Chadwick from Pendle Athletic Club missed a place in the U15 squad even though she broke the county record in the shot with 11.71m.

There was only one place left open with most of the spots having been allocated after the previous league fixture and her greatest rival won the “Athlete of the Match” award to earn the ticket.
