RICKY Lightfoot showed what a valuable signing he will be for Blackburn Harriers when he won the senior men’s race at Wilson’s Playing Fields in the latest round of the Mid-Lancs Cross Country League.

The 24-year old, below, Cumbrian’s registration came through too late for him to be a counter for Blackburn so he ran in his Ellenborough colours.

Lightfoot is a first class fell runner having won World series bronze and World long distance bronze medals last year.

Other local winners included Elizabeth Greenwood of Blackburn and Pendle’s Matthew Dutton in the U13 races.

Beckie Taylor was the runner up in the women’s U17 race for Blackburn while Gary Priestley, the Chorley-based Horwich Harrier pushed Lightfoot hardest.

Wilson’s regular Sarah Ridehalgh was fourth senior woman for Accrington RR and Alexa McTiffin was third U11 for the hosts.
