ROBBIE Schofield and Oliver Aspden have been chosen for the Lancashire Schools’ Team after winning bronze medals at the English Schools’ Championships 12 months ago.
Although both were winners in the Lancashire Schools’ Championships, neither Schofield in the senior boys’ 800m or Aspden in the 100m hurdles made their qualifying times and were discretionary picks.
Luke Evans has opted for the 200m after winning the sprint double at the trial and, as expected, Sophie Hitchon chooses the hammer rather than the 100m.
The English Schools’ Championships will take place at the Don Valley Stadium in Sheffield on the weekend of July 10 and 11.
Local selections (school district): Senior boys: 200m Luke Evans (Burnley), 800m Robbie Schofield (Hyndburn).
Intermediates: 800m Sam Yates (Hyndburn), 800m Chris Matthews (Blackburn), 100m hurdles Oliver Aspden (Hyndburn).
Senior girls: 800m Leigh Lennon (Hyndburn), pole vault Holly Bleasdale (South Ribble), hammer Sophie Hitchon (Burnley).
Intermediates: high jump Jodie Farnworth (Chorley), long jump Michaela Brindle (Chorley), hammer Megan Searson (Blackburn). Juniors: shot put Lucy Chadwick (Pendle).
