Clean sweep for Broome sisters

Paddy’s Pole, near Chipping, saw Dan Edwards leading Chorley Harriers home followed by Nicki Rushton who took fourth prize in the ladies race.

Peter Gillham followed and then there were two more ladies from the Chorley club, both claiming prizes. Jan Atkins was first LV60 and Janet Chaplin first LV45.

Henderson’s End saw two Harriers in action in the senior race, Andrew Clough leading Pete Gillham around the six mile 800 ft of climbing course times and positions are a bit sketchy.

In the junior race the Broome sisters made a clean sweep with Molly and Sophie getting first and second.

The boys could not quite emulate this Mark Brown and Dan Whitlock finished second and third.

Blencathra was the attraction for Dominic Raby. In a race of eight miles with 2,700ft of climbing Raby took 12th place in 1hr 9mins. Clubmates Adam Critchley, Paul Jackson and Garry platt also ran strongly, Critchley finishing 23rd 1.13 Jackson 63rd 1.23 and Platt 65th 1.24 out of a field of 125 athletes.

Three of the four also competed in the Helvellyn fell race this time an 11mile and a massive 4,500ft of climbing. Raby once again showing the way for the Harriers, finishing in a superb ninth place. On this occasion Platt got the bragging rights over Jackson but both achieved personal bests on the course.

Nicki Rushton also competed well finishing eighth lady and second LV40. During the month of May, Rushton took in four fell races including Fairfield, Buttermere and Coniston which she completed a huge 10 minutes quicker than last year.
