CHRIS Kay and Alison Rushton took the honours in the second Darwen Aquathon.

The event comprised a 20-length, 500m swim of the Darwen Pool and 5k run from the Sunnyhurst Pub to Darwen Tower and back.

Kay completed the swim in nine minutes and 40 seconds and the run in 23mins 26secs – the best time in the 26-strong field – to claim pole position in an overall 33mins 6secs.

Rushton was the fastest female after finishing the swim in 9mins 50secs and the run in 30mins 31secs.

Carol Butterworth was the second female home and, in 30mins 23secs, the fastest female runner.

Ruth Johnson was the fastest swimmer on the day, in 7mins 23secs.

Johnson also took part in the team competition with Jonny Murphy being her runner.

The fastest of the teams was the one containing Ryan Tzvetanov and Conard McKee. They came home in 31mins 49secs.

Tzvetanov’s swim time of 7mins 49secs was the third fastest overall with McKee’s run time of 24mins the second fastest overall.
