LIZ Greenwood continued her fine form as she finished as the fastest girl in the U16 race at the English Junior Fell Championship at Rivington Pike.

The Blackburn Harriers ace came home in 17th overall in 14 minutes and 37 seconds.

She was followed by clubmates Grace Handley, the third-fastest girl and 20th overall in 15mins 7secs, and Kelsey Rutherford, who was 29th in 16mins.

Rossendale Harriers’ Billy Smith finished third in the U8 race in 4mins 20mins.

Chorley Athletic and Triathlon Club’s Owen Kellett was not far behind in 10th in 4mins 51secs.

Four promising East Lancashire runners powered into the top 10 in the U10s race.

Daniel Lilley, of Chorley Athletic and Triathlon Club, was third in 6mins 43secs, Jackson McKay, of Clayton-le-Moors Harriers, was fifth in 6mins 48secs, and one place ahead of Rossendale Harriers’ Joe Hopley in 6mins 56secs, with Chorley Athletic and Triathlon Club’s Vaughan Green ninth in 7mins 3secs.

Clayton-le-Moors Harriers’ Briony Holt was the second-fast girl and 11th overall in the U12s race in 10mins 24secs.

Xavier Greenhalgh, of Chorley Athletic and Triathlon Club, followed up in 20th in 10mins 54secs.

Three Rossendale Harriers starlets finished inside the top 20 in the U14s race, with Ben Greenhalgh 13th in 14mins 35secs, Matthew Mackay 15th in 14mins 40secs, and Tom Hopley 18th in 14mins 44secs.

The Blackburn Harriers quartet of Jack Hindle (21st and third-fastest U20 in 19mins 23secs), Zac Howe (28th in 19mins 43secs), Matt Nuttall (54th in 21mins 3secs) and Joseph Howe (56th in 21mins 8secs), meanwhile, were the third fastest men’s team in the Rivington Pike Race held on the same day at the same venue.

Robert Webb was 12th in the individual standings, in 18mins 31secs, followed by his Rossendale Harriers clubmate Ashley Holt, who was 16th in 18mins 59secs, and Chorley Athletic and Triathlon Club’s Julian Goudge, who was the second-fastest V40 and 24th overall in 19mins 27secs.

Goudge, Dominic Raby (40th in 20mins 23secs) and Ainsley Murphy (105th in 22mins 54secs) helped their club secure third place in the veterans men’s team table.

Another Chorley Athletic and Triathlon Club member, John Swift, was the fastest V70 and 308th overall in 31mins 41secs.

He followed Clayton-le-Moors Harriers’ Ted Orrell, who was the fastest V75 in 301st overall in 30mins 54secs. His clubmate Ronald Holl was the third-fastest V75 in 334th overall in 34mins 26secs.

There were age group prizes for Chorley Athletic and Triathlon Club duo, Christine Sweatman and Jane Atkins, in the women’s race.

Sweatman was the fastest L55 and 50th overall in 31mins 45secs while Atkins was the fastest L65 and 56th overall in 32mins 30secs.
