EAST Lancashire starlets were in winning form at the Mid Lancs Cross Country League race in Barrow.

Blackburn Harriers’ Amy Davies won the under-11s girls race in seven minutes and nine seconds while George Owen stormed to U11s boys glory in 6mins 41secs.

Kai Atkins, of Pendle Athletic Club, was the winner of the U13s boys race in 10mins 23secs.

Pendle enjoyed a 1-2-3 in the U15s boys race as Matthew Barnes finished first in 12mins 14secs, Thomas Marchant second in 12mins 33secs and Tiaman Crorken third in 13mins.

The trio’s performances, along with that of the eighth-placed Jordan Isherwood (13mins 53secs), ensured Pendle took the team title.

Rossendale Harriers’ Rebecca Flanagan was second in the U17s women’s race in 15mins 8secs while there were third-placed finishes for Pendle Athletic Club’s James Marchant (17mins 9secs) in the U17s men’s race and Hyndburn AC’s Ellen Sagar-Hesketh (23mins 1sec) in the U20s women’s race.

Blackburn Harriers won the senior men’s prize thanks to fastest MV40 Matt Nuttall (seventh in 31mins 58secs), third-fastest MV40 Paul Guinan (11th in 32mins 16secs), Thomas Blaney (18th in 33mins 5secs), Shaun Livesey (24th in 33mins 25secs), Chris Davies (27th in 33mins 41secs) and Chris Barnes (37th in 34mins 56secs).

Nick Treitl was 16th in 32mins 46secs for Barlick Fell Runners, for whom Scott Baistow was the third-fastest U20s male in 129th overall in 43mins 20secs.

Alex Cran (73rd in 37mins 44secs) and Paul Wareing (98th in 32mins 45secs) were first home for Clayton-le-Moors Harriers and Chorley Athletic and Triathlon Club respectively.

Clayton-le-Moors Harriers came second in the MV60 and third in the MV50 team standings.

Helen Leigh, of Blackburn Harriers, finished fourth in the women’s race in 18mins 51secs.

She was followed by Clayton-le-Moors Harriers duo, second-fastest LV55 Irene Roche in 22nd (22mins 51secs) and third-fastest LV55 Jean Knightley in 33rd (23mins 56secs).

Their performances, combined with that of LV55 Wendy Dodds’ 40th-placed finish (24mins 25secs), ensured Clayton-le-Moors claimed the LV45 and LV55 team prizes.

Christine Sweatman (54th in 26mins 15secs) was first past the post for Chorley Athletic and Triathlon Club. Four Chorley juniors were in action. Daniel Lilley and Jack Hughes passed the post in 10th and 11th respectively in the U11s boys event, followed by Tom Perks in 23rd, while Ben Hughes came eighth in the U13s boys event.
