A CHRISTMAS trip back home was well worth it for one veteran East Lancashire runner.

Blackburn Harriers stalwart Tony Greenwood flew back from Switzerland to take part in his club’s annual event, the Ribble Valley 10k, for the first time in years.

In a field of 1,087 finishers, Tony crossed the line in 129th position in a time of 36 minutes and 28 seconds which ensured he claimed the M55 title and moved him up to 24th in the UK for his age category.

Tony, who has been a member of Blackburn Harriers for 30 years, said: “I’m really pleased with my progress, as I only started to train again properly three months ago after booking my flight and realising it landed the evening before the race.

“We are looking to move back to the UK as soon as possible, doing the Ribble Valley 10k has just wetted my appetite and made me realise how much I miss being home.”

Tony received his prize from sponsors Forbes Solicitors.
