BLACKBURN Harriers members young and old brought the curtain down on another track and field season to remember at the club’s annual awards presentation.

There were some great moments during the evening, not least the inauguration of the Arthur Almond Memorial Trophy for the best track performance of the year.

The trophy was donated by Sylvia Almond – Arthur’s wife – and it was fitting that Alison Leonard won it with her 800m time of 2.02.96 in Belgium in July.

Special guest Damian Talbot, the executive board member for culture, leisure and sport at Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council, was on hand to present the awards.

Tony Wood, the Harriers chairman, praised the role of the local authority and those like Damian who had worked hard to get the club’s new training facility at Witton Park off the ground.

Another new trophy, presented for the first time, was the Members Award, created by the club’s committee in an effort to recognise to contribution of Harriers members over many years.

Sylvia, a track judge and referee, and Jean Leigh, a field and cross country official, were popular and worthy winners of the trophy.
