BLACKBURN Harriers long distance running ace Rachel Wood has clocked up another personal best.

She bettered the PB she had set on her way to winning the Love Luton Half Marathon three weeks earlier when finishing 126th in 84 minutes and 33 seconds at the Gosport Half Marathon.

Wood said: “Having won the Luton Half three weeks ago, I thought it would be good training for the London Marathon to race what is known to be one of the fastest half marathons in the country.

“I crossed the line in 84mins 30secs, a time that I am happy with, but I know with more mileage under my belt I can run faster.”

Stephen Chew was the fastest Harrier and broke his PB by 30 seconds in the Leeds Abbey Dash 10k.

Chew passed the post in 32mins 27secs for 96th place overall.

Matt Lalor (102nd), by 37 seconds, and Becky Shorrock (846th in 40mins 28secs), by two minutes, also posted PBs.

They were split by Andy Buttery (183rd in 33mins 57secs).

Shelly Tattersall had an off day, finishing in 44mins and 1sec, while Gary Priestly – who competes for Harriers on the track – missed out on a PB by just four seconds when finishing 55th in 31mins 20secs.

Closer to home, at the Preston 10 Mile Road Race, four Harriers were in action.

Shaun Livesey knocked more than two minutes off his PB when crossing the line in 56mins 1sec for fourth spot.

Tom Blaney, who hadn’t raced the distance before, followed him in eighth in a time of 58mins 45secs.

Laura Hesketh (85th in 67mins 47secs) came within 45 seconds of achieving a PB.

But Kaylie Panaro did manage a PB – by some four minutes – when finishing in 80mins 35secs.

Helen Leigh, meanwhile, was the second female home at the Open Adventure Haglofs KMF 10k Trail Race in Kendal in 46mins 39secs.
