ROVERS Ladies will look to continue their march up the FA Women’s Premier League table when they host Leicester City at Bamber Bridge tomorrow (2pm).

Gemma Donnelly’s side have enjoyed an excellent last seven days which included a 4-0 victory over league leaders Middlesbrough on Tuesday in their bid to retain their title.

That followed up a a 4-0 success over Derby County last weekend, meaning Rovers are 11 points behind Boro with six games in hand. The two clubs will meet again before the season is out.

Rovers started strongly on Tuesday and led after 15 minutes when Natasha Flint kept up her impressive form with a close range volley to make it 1-0.

Donnelly’s side continued to dominate proceedings but it wasn’t until the second half until they added a second.

Lynda Shepherd, fresh from her brace against Derby, made it 2-0 with a fine finish four minutes after the re-start. And it was effectively game over in the 56th minute when Saffron Jordan took advantage of good pressing to find the back of the net.

Several chances came and went, before Lagan Makin rounded off the scoring with a powerful effort after cutting in from the left.

Next up for Rovers is a game with the Foxes who they leapfrogged in to the table in midweek, Donnelly’s team will host Bradford City on Tuesday as they continue their hectic schedule.

Meanwhile, a date and venue has been set for Rovers’ FA Women’s Premier League Cup final with Leicester City. The game will take place at Chesterfield’s Proact Stadium on Sunday, April 29.

Donnelly said: “This is the first senior league cup final that Blackburn Rovers have reached in the history of the ladies’ team.

“We are both extremely proud and excited to be involved in this competition. We look forward to the occasion and enjoy the experience.”
