Rovers defenders Darragh Lenihan and Derrick Williams could make their Republic of Ireland debuts next week after receiving their first call-ups to the full national side.

The pair were named in Martin O'Neill's provisional squad last week ahead of the friendly with Turkey on Friday, March 23 (5.30pm).

And Rovers confirmed this afternoon that both Lenihan and Williams have been included in the full squad for next week's match.

Both Lenihan and Williams have previously represented their country at Under-19 and Under-21 level, but this is their first call-up to the senior side.

It marks an excellent week in particular for Lenihan who celebrated his 24th birthday on Friday. He has impressed since returning from his injury absence having missed six months of action through a fractured metatarsal.

Williams meanwhile has been a mainstay of the Rovers side since joining from Bristol Rovers in the summer of 2016. He has started every league game since Tony Mowbray took charge in February and was crowned Rovers' player of the season last term.

That means five Rovers players have now been called up by their countries following Jayson Leutwiler (Canada), Charlie Mulgrew (Scotland) and Corry Evans (Northern Ireland).

That was the reason behind the postponement of the trip to Doncaster Rovers scheduled for March 24. That will now be played on Tuesday, April 24.
