JAMES Tarkowski is looking up the Premier League table rather than down after helping Burnley to hit the magical 40 point mark with nine games to go.

Victory over Everton took the Clarets to their first target for the season, matching the tally from last season and maintaining their position in seventh place.

But Tarkowski insists it's Arsenal, who are sixth and five points clear of the Clarets but have been stuttering recently, who are in Burnley's sights now, rather than any concern about Leicester City, who are three points in eighth.

"It's brilliant," the centre back said of bringing up the milestone.

"We've been looking at that 40-point mark for quite a while now. It has been a bit frustrating but to get there now gives us the freedom to go out and play for the next nine games and try to get as many points as we can. Hopefully we can stay up and abouts where we are at the moment.

"I don't think we've got a (points) figure to be honest; we just want to try and get as many points as we can.

"Obviously everyone aims for that 40 mark at the start of the season so to get there with nine games to go is nice. We're trying to chase the people above us rather than looking at those below."

The Premier League table certainly makes for good reading for Clarets at the moment, with the grip on seventh strengthened thanks to the win over the Toffees, which moved Burnley six point clear of Sam Allardyce's side, while Leicester could only draw with Bournemouth last weekend.

"It's been good for the last two or three months," Tarkowski said.

"I know the results haven't been there but we've stayed seventh throughout this whole period which has been quite nice.

"To finally get that win will hopefully take the shackles off a little bit because people have been talking about this run that we've been on. Hopefully over the next nine games we can go out there and keeping doing what we're doing and pick up some more points.

"They (Everton) were one of the teams around us so it was nice to pick up the points from them. We've just got to concentrate on ourselves; teams around us will pick up points as well. As long as we're doing our job then we should be okay."
