IT MIGHT be time to start booking Thursdays off work and scouring the Ryanair website for cheap flights to goodness knows where because the Clarets’ European adventure might be back on!

Ok, I might be getting ahead of myself but Saturday’s 2-1 win over Everton did feel a little like we were back on track after two months of what ifs, maybes and bad luck.

Our first win since December was followed up on Sunday with Arsenal going down 2-1 at Brighton and the gap between us staying at a very catchable five points, especially given the form their in at the minute.

I thought on Saturday we were getting back to our best, especially after the break.

Both wingers – played on their preferred sides – were giving Everton all sorts of problems and Ashley Barnes made sure both Ashley Williams and Michael Keane were given a torrid afternoon.

Even after a bright start though we found ourselves a goal down at the break, poor defending allowing Cenk Tosun to notch his first goal for the Toffees.

Sean Dyche – not always known for his early use of substitutes – did decide the time was right at half time to introduce Chris Wood and it paid dividends.

With two up top, it gave us extra purpose and with a defence as shaky as Everton’s, you just sensed we might just turn it around.

Barnes got the goal his performance deserved to level things up after a magnificent ball from Matt Lowton in behind the defence put him clear.

The lads on Sky Sports were waxing lyrical about it and rightly so. I don’t think we’d have stopped seeing replays of it had it been Kevin De Bruyne or Eden Hazard!

The winner was a bit of a gift really, Wood given all the time in the world to wander between Williams and Keane to nod home a JBG corner.

You could definitely feel the relief around the ground when the final whistle went but with it came a renewed sense of optimism that the season might end the way it started.

A trip to West Ham on Saturday presents another winnable game for me and if we can start picking up a run of results then Europe might not be too far away.

I don’t want to count my chickens just yet though because it’s a funny old game but I’m just off to check my passport is still valid!
