ADAM Armstrong is confident games will bring goals and the striker wants to fire Rovers to the Championship.

The Newcastle United loanee made it three goals in two games as his brace gave Rovers a 2-1 win at Portsmouth on Tuesday night.

The striker came off the bench to help turn the game against Oldham last weekend, scoring the equaliser and his first in Rovers colours on his 21st birthday.

He followed that up with two at Fratton Park on his return to the starting line-up and will aim to continue his goalscoring run against Bury on Monday night at Ewood Park.

“I’m here to score goals and I did that,” said Armstrong.

“I’m here to play games, I’m getting that at the minute and I’m sure the goals will come.

“Scoring goals brings you confidence and I’ve got three now and want to keep pushing on. Hopefully I can keep it up.”

Armstrong’s move from the north east reunited him with Ewood boss Tony Mowbray who he worked with during a 12 month spell at Coventry City in 2015/16.

He scored 20 goals in that campaign and has made a bright start to life in East Lancashire which has seen him feature in all seven games since joining the club last month.

Armstrong’s late winner sent Rovers level on points with Wigan and one point behind leaders Shrewsbury in the race to reach the Championship.

And after dropping points in three of their last four games, Armstrong added of the midweek success: “It gives everyone a lift.

“The competition will drive us forward but the target every week is three points.

“We had lost one and drawn one coming in to it (Portsmouth) so I think it was only right that we bounced back.

“It was a tricky night, we knew it would be a tricky place to come on a Tuesday night.

“I thought the lads showed great character to come back and win 2-1.

“The seven minutes added on wasn’t nice but we dug deep and came through in the end.

“We will get rested up, recover right and go again on Monday.”

Armstrong started the game at Fratton Park on the left of an attacking three behind the main striker, a position he has mainly been used in by Rovers.

However, he ended the match, as he had against Oldham in his more favoured central striking role where he came up with the late winner.

“I think we have shown it works,” he said.

“We did it against Oldham and got the two goals, we did again and found the winner.

“It’s worked well and the three points are massive.”
