LUKAS Jutkiewicz is focusing on performing for Birmingham City during his St Andrew’s loan spell rather than concerning himself with his Burnley future.

The Clarets striker has just a year remaining on his Turf Moor deal and he is on loan with the Blues until January.

The 27-year-old has suffered a frustrating time with Burnley since joining ahead of the 2014/15 Premier League campaign, and he missed most of last season with a cruciate knee ligament injury.

He has failed to find the back of the net in 35 games for Burnley, with just 14 of them coming from the start, but he ended a goal drought dating back to May 2014 on Saturday, heading in a late winner for Birmingham against Sheffield Wednesday.

It was a welcome scoring return for Jutkiewicz, who isn’t worrying about whether he will be offered a new Burnley deal just yet.

“You can’t look too far ahead, I have never been into the last year of a contract before - but at the same time you can’t look too far into the future,” he said.

“Football changes so quickly. This morning you are sat not in the team, then a few hours later you have scored the winner.

“It changes that quickly, particularly for a striker, you can’t really look too far forward, you have to look to next Saturday - that’s as far as you can.”

Jutkiewicz’s last goal had come for Bolton against Birmingham in a 2-2 draw.

His performances on loan for the Trotters convinced Sean Dyche to sign him from Middlesbrough.

After a bright pre-season last summer he suffered an injury early in the campaign, but is now happy to be back in the goals.

“It feels brilliant, no matter when, but particularly when you have had a long time out - and a long time to watch football and not be able to play,” he said.

“It’s what you play for, why you do the job, the best feeling you can have playing football.

“I get grumpy when I haven’t played. Last year particularly gave me a lot of thinking time – I sat on the sidelines watching everyone else play and not getting the chance to.

“Those are the times when you think about it more often and you are just desperate to get back out on the pitch.”
