OWEN Coyle has confirmed he will make wholesale changes for Blackburn Rovers’ EFL Cup third-round clash with Championship rivals Leeds United tomorrow.

Tommie Hoban and Derrick Williams are cup-tied, Danny Graham, Charlie Mulgrew, Elliott Ward and Adam Henley remain sidelined, while Anthony Stokes is a doubt.

The match is Coyle’s side’s fourth of seven in the space of 21 days and precedes another crunch league encounter away to Derby County.

Rovers recorded their first victory of the Championship campaign on Saturday when they beat fellow strugglers Rotherham United 4-2 at Ewood Park.

And with injuries and unavailability taking hold their manager is determined to his keep his first-choice XI fresh for the trip to the iPro Stadium.

But Coyle insists the team which will take to the field at the Elland Road will have enough quality to progress to the last 16.

Coyle, who will start David Raya in goal and include Connor Mahoney and the fit-again Elliott Bennett in his squad, said: “We want to be in every cup and we want to win every game we play.

“I think given the injury situation we’ve got, a clear week would have been beneficial for us to get ready for Derby.

“But we’ve not got that luxury so we’ll pick ourselves up and try and win a tough game at Leeds.

“There will be eight or nine changes as there are a number of players who need an opportunity to play that have quality.

“In turn that allows us to give one or two a little break in readiness for Derby on Saturday.

“We’ll have a team that is competitive, a team that we will try and win the game, and a team I believe that can go and cause Leeds problems.”
