ANOTHER showdown with world champions Germany awaits Grant Hanley after the Blackburn Rovers captain was recalled by Scotland.

Hanley missed out on a place in Gordon Strachan’s squad for their big Euro 2016 qualifier in Republic of Ireland in June after he missed the end of the season through injury.

But having returned to fitness, and having started the campaign in impressive form, the centre-back was yesterday named in Scotland boss Strachan’s 26-man party for next month’s crucial qualifying double header.

The Tartan Army take on Georgia in Tbilisi on Friday, September 4 before welcoming 2014 World Cup winners Germany to Hampden Park on Monday, September 7.

Hanley was part of the Scotland side that opened their qualification campaign with a 2-1 defeat to Joachim Low’s team in Dortmund last September.

Since then the Tartan Army have taken 11 points from a possible 15.

That has left them third in the Group D standings, two points behind Germany and three points behind-table-topping Poland.

Scotland are attempting to qualify for a major tournament for the first time since 1998.

And Strachan is delighted that Hanley is back in his squad.

He said: “It’s always good to have him because he’s a top, young centre-half.

“We’ve not really missed him because the people who have played have been fantastic but he makes our squad stronger.

“I’m delighted because I’ve had to leave out players who are playing really well.”

There is no place in the Scotland squad for Hanley’s Rovers team-mates Craig Conway and Jordan Rhodes.

Rhodes’ absence from Saturday’s 1-0 defeat at Brighton & Hove Albion, with an ankle injury, meant he missed a second successive match for the first time in his Ewood Park career.

Rovers right-back Adam Henley is tomorrow expected to be named in the Wales squad for their Euro 2016 qualifiers away to Cyprus and at home to Israel.

Wales, managed by former Rovers centre-back Chris Coleman, top Group B.

Northern Ireland, meanwhile, are second in Group F.

They head to the Faroe Islands and host Hungary next month and their squad is set to include Rovers midfielder Corry Evans.
