Scott Arfield v Chelsea, August 18

SCOTT Arfield’s rocket on the first day of the season announced Burnley’s return to the Premier League.

A Burnley corner, which could only be half-cleared by the Chelsea defence, eventually arrived back at the feet of the corner taker Matt Taylor.

He lofted an intelligent ball to the edge of the box.

There was Arfield to control it before unleashing a half-volley into the roof of the net and beyond Thibaut Courtois.

Ross Wallace v Leicester City, October 4

ROSS Wallace came up with the goods six minutes into added time when Burnley met Leicester in October.

A Matty James foul on Scott Arfield gave the winger,a 79th minute substitute, the chance to score what would be his only league goal of the season with virtually the last kick of the game.

The Scotsman stepped up and curled a delightful 20-yard free kick into the Leicester goal just out of Kasper Schmeichel’s reach.

George Boyd v Newcastle United, December 2

ANOTHER George Boyd strike to add to the collection, this time against Newcastle.

Boyd’s strike in the 34th minute against the Magpies put Burnley in the driving seat with a fine strike from 20 yards.

A long ball from Trippier was headed down by Danny Ings; Boyd took one touch to set himself and then found the back of the net with a crisp left footed strike which beat Rob Elliot.

Danny Ings v Manchester United, February 11

A DANNY Ings header levelled things up for Burnley at Old Trafford, after trailing 1-0 to the Red Devils in the opening six minutes.

Lancashire Telegraph:

Some good play down the right between George Boyd and Kieran Trippier resulted in Trippier overlapping the former Peterborough man before whipping a dangerous ball across the face of goal.

Ings was there to meet it inside the box with a diving header which required him to stretch every sinew of his body in order to reach it.

George Boyd v Manchester City, March 14

GEORGE Boyd’s fifth, and final, goal of the season came at home to Manchester City. And what a goal it was as the Clarets stunned the then title contenders.

After Danny Ings was fouled by Martin Demichelis, Trippier curled a free-kick into box, which returning City captain Vincent Kompany could only half-clear.

It fell invitingly at the feet of Boyd, who hit a low fierce first time half-volley which Joe Hart could only watch into his bottom left hand corner.
