ISN’T it a shame the season is over and not just starting, as Burnley ended it with their best run of form during the campaign with two wins and a draw as the curtain came down at Villa Park.

Not only did they keep their record of never finishing bottom of any league since the war, but also gained an extra £1.3m as a positional reward.

As it was our last Premier League match for another year at least, I felt obliged to make a full day of it.

With Sunday engineering work severely disrupting the line in and out of Birmingham New Street rail station, a rare trip on the National Express coach service came to our transportation rescue.

An early departure would get us to Perry Barr student campus for just after 10am.

That would leave just under a mile to get to Villa Park.

With a return journey from the same spot at 5.45pm, there was no need to touch the city centre at all.

But what do you do with yourself a good five hours before kick-off?

You do your research beforehand of course.

That is how myself and Walsden Claret ‘knock-off Nigel’ found ourselves breakfasting in the Arthur Robertson Wetherspoons pub just across the road in the One Stop Shopping Centre.

Say what you like about this chain, but they are one of the few that prevent you walking the streets until midday.

Once again as we found again with other fans across the country our reputation preceded us as a good footballing side, and many commiserations were once again offered.

And wasn’t it fitting that the departing Danny Ings got the only goal of the game?

What a great ambassador this man has been for the town of Burnley on and off the pitch. Well done Danny, we all wish you well.

Can we bounce straight back? We have a great chance to do so. With a decent investment we should certainly be targeting a top six spot.

With around six weeks before our friendly games kick in, 2015/16 will be underway before we know it.
